4 Beds – City Gateway Getaway Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name 4 Beds – City Gateway Getaway, I wasn’t expecting much. It sounds like someone just threw together a basic Airbnb listing, you know? But this little place in Govan actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in this residential area that most tourists completely miss, which honestly works in your favor because you get a proper feel for how real Glaswegians live. The building itself has that classic Scottish tenement charm – thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly quiet even when the local pub crowd gets lively on weekends.

What really got me about this place is how the owner (I’m pretty sure they live nearby) has managed to create something that feels genuinely boutique without trying too hard. I mean, there’s no official star rating, but that’s kind of the point – it’s doing its own thing. The four-bed setup works brilliantly if you’re traveling with friends or family because you actually get space to spread out, unlike those cramped city center hotels where you’re practically sleeping on top of each other. The kitchen‘s properly equipped too, which matters more than you’d think when you realize how expensive eating out in Glasgow can get, especially around the touristy bits.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location is actually genius once you figure it out. Yeah, it’s south of the river, but you’re literally ten minutes to the city center if you hop on the subway at Govan station. And honestly? This part of town has some of the best curry houses I’ve found anywhere in Scotland, plus you’re walking distance to the Riverside Museum if that’s your thing. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night, which is gold if you’re someone who needs actual sleep. Parking‘s not the nightmare it is in the West End either – I managed to find street spots without selling a kidney. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s not trying to be the Blythswood Square Hotel, but for a comfortable base where you can actually relax and feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than another generic box, it delivers. Just don’t expect room service or a concierge – this is more like staying at your cool Scottish friend’s really nice flat.

  • We had a good time, nice and big and easy to get into the centre with an uber. Shop right across the road which was hand – Nathan from United Kingdom – September 4, 2025 (9/10)

    Nice and spacious

  • Great location for Bellahouston Park – Ogilvie from United Kingdom – June 30, 2025 (8/10)

Location was great for Bellahouston Park – 1 mile walk. Plenty space in the rooms and Shops near by were handy.

What could be improved: As we were a party of six, an extra bathroom would of been ideal and the entrance to the tenement needs attention

  • Would def stay again as lovely comfy flat with plenty of space for us all. – Jane from United Kingdom – May 18, 2025 (9/10)

Lovely big bedrooms with plenty of space

Very comfortable and great space to spend time before going to a concert.

Easy to get to from underground and only 10 min walk to ovo.

  • Enjoyed our stay – Scott from United Kingdom – August 14, 2025 (7/10)

Good area, close to subways for travel

What could be improved: Pillows weren’t the best. TV could do with being a bit bigger

Very central – within walking distance of the OVO hydro
    Lots of good takeaways nearby
    Comfy beds

  • Good choice in Glasgow. – Hon from Hong Kong – July 22, 2025 (8/10)

    Good location and facilities.

  • Overall, the apartment was close to local bus stops and was clean, just a shame about the heating/h. – Sarah from United Kingdom – December 2, 2024 (7/10)

Apartment was clean & communication with host was great.

What could be improved: No clear instruction on how to work heating & unfortunately didn’t have any hot water for the duration of our stay meaning the 6 guests were unable to get showers & we were unable to wash our dishes to our highest standards. There was quite a lot of noise from football fans over the weekend at the surrounding pubs which we didn’t realise were so close meaning we were disturbed quite a lot.

  • clean and comfortable property, but issues with shower weren’t acceptable – Pearl from United Kingdom – March 17, 2025 (5/10)

Comfortable property in a great location for the SECC. Clean and provided what we expected when booking.

What could be improved: Shower had to be ran for 10 mins to get hot water. Once it was switched off the next person couldn’t get hot water at all. We left the shower on and all had to shower straight after each other!

  • Perfect accommodation with brilliant customer service – Lisa from United Kingdom – January 28, 2025 (10/10)

It was everything we expected and more

What could be improved: Loved everything

  • Lovely Lorne Street stay – Colin from United Kingdom – December 1, 2024 (10/10)

Everything you need is supplied. The small touches of decor make the space very homely and warm

What could be improved: We had an issue with hot water but it was sorted out quickly.
