You know what caught me off guard about 52, Charlotte Street Apartments? The moment you walk in, it actually feels like someone’s really nice flat rather than a sterile hotel room. I mean, these are proper self-catering apartments right in the thick of Glasgow‘s city center, and honestly, the location is pretty brilliant if you want to be walking distance from everything that matters.

The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I was expecting something cramped given it’s right in the city center, but there’s actually room to spread out. The kitchens are well-kitted out too, which is great if you’re staying more than a couple nights and getting tired of eating out (though let’s be honest, you’re spoiled for choice around here). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night, even being on such a central street. The double glazing must be decent because Charlotte Street can get a bit lively, especially on weekends when people are heading to and from the pubs on George Square.

Speaking of location – and this is where it gets really good – you’re literally a three-minute walk from Queen Street Station, which makes getting around Scotland dead easy if that’s part of your plan. But even if you’re just exploring Glasgow, everything’s right there. The Gallery of Modern Art is practically next door, Buchanan Street shopping is around the corner, and you can walk to the Cathedral or the West End without breaking a sweat. I actually found myself using the apartment as a proper base, popping back between exploring different neighborhoods. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that hanging around a lobby business, just straight to your own front door. For a 3-star place with an 8.3 rating, it punches well above its weight, honestly. It’s not fancy-schmancy, but it’s comfortable, practical, and the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in Glasgow rather than just visiting it.

    Very spacious with a comfortable bed. I didn’t use the cooking facilities but there appeared to be plenty of crockery and cutlery.

    What could be improved: The bathroom needed some attention which I conveyed to the owner who was very responsive and helpful.it would have been helpful to know that a refundable deposit was required prior to the booking being accepted.

    The location is great and the apartment was itself was good however a few things to note when booking. There is Parking directly outside the property. So you may want to consider whether you need the key fob for private parking

    We were told our accommodation was on second floor which technically it is however it’s not two flight of stairs it’s four so if you have issues with stairs let them know I didn’t think it would be till I got there with my 91 year old mum who just recovered from a heart attack a few months ago so these stairs were very challenging and once up she didn’t come back down till we left

    I did message owner to ask if we could have a space lower to the ground and if not a refund which she said she would but I had to contact booking.com to sort as I have been in this situation with booking.com before when the owner cancelled on us saying we would get our money back we never did so although the offer was there there was no way of guarantee we would actually get the refund so we stayed. It’s just a shame not knowing about the stairs had we been lower on the ground it would have been perfect. I would stay again as the place itself was fine clean etc.

    What could be improved: As already stated the stairs more than we expected
    After booking we were asked to pay a deposit of £100 -and £50 for a key fob for private parking which wasn’t needed as we parked outside which is metered and free from 6 pm – 8am also didn’t see that information when booking and the owner rang me asking for the money the next day after booking

    There was some damp in the bathroom and window didn’t open fully
    It also felt damp in the bedroom other than that it was clean
