Art Deco Building on Vibrant Sauchiehall Street Overview

You know what caught me off guard about the Art Deco Building on Vibrant Sauchiehall Street? It’s actually one of those places where the name tells you everything you need to know – and honestly, that’s refreshing in a world of generic hotel brands. When I first walked up to it, I was struck by how the building itself is basically the whole point of staying here. The Art Deco facade has these beautiful geometric details that you don’t really notice from street level until you’re standing right in front of it, and then you’re like, “oh right, this is why they named it that.”

Glasgow has this incredible mix of Victorian grandeur and industrial grit, and this place sits right in that sweet spot. Sauchiehall Street can get pretty lively – I mean, it’s one of the main shopping and nightlife strips – so if you’re looking for dead quiet, this might not be your spot. But there’s something energizing about being right in the thick of things. You can literally roll out of bed and grab coffee, hit the shops, or duck into one of those traditional pubs that locals actually frequent (not just the touristy ones). The location means you’re walking distance to the Glasgow School of Art – well, what’s left of it after the fires – and the Theatre Royal if you’re into that scene.

Now, let’s be real about what you’re getting. This is a solid 3-star spot with a 7.2 rating, which in my experience usually means “perfectly fine with some character but don’t expect luxury touches.” The rooms I saw were clean and functional, though some of the fixtures definitely show their age – not in a charming vintage way, more in a “this could use updating” way. But honestly? The building’s personality more than makes up for it. The common areas have retained some of that original Art Deco flair, and there’s something satisfying about staying somewhere with actual architectural character instead of another beige box hotel. Plus, the staff seemed to genuinely know the area – when I asked about getting to the West End, the front desk guy gave me specific bus routes and mentioned which stops to avoid during rush hour, which you don’t always get. If you’re the type of traveler who’d rather spend money on experiences than thread count, and you want to feel connected to Glasgow’s creative energy rather than insulated from it, this place delivers on that front.

Easy to collect keys and easy to check out. The apartment was spotless and spacious. The sofa bed was great – large double size. The apartment we got was at the back of the building so no views but we were happy with that because it was so quiet at night and we all got a fantastic sleep! To be honest, we've never cared about the views of a hotel/apartment anyway and would rather take a quiet apartment over nice noisy views. The location is excellent. It's on the main street with all the bars and restaurants. There is a Tesco express downstairs and many other small grocery stores nearby which stayed open during the storm. We were meant to check out on the day of Storm Eowyn and we contacted the apartment the night before to request staying for another night. The host was wonderful and came back to us very quickly and it was an easy process to extend our stay. The service was amazing. I can't thank them enough. I highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

The Art Deco building is really interesting, and it's so helpful to have a grocery store just downstairs.

  • Simona from Luxembourg (7/10)

The property is quite centrally located, close to the area we were interested in, walking distance from the shopping area.

The building has indeed a small Tesco at the ground floor which is very helpful for small groceries shopping.

We had no issues with the internet connection (I had to work for a short while from time to time, done it without any interruptions).
