Black Daisy Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Black Daisy on Belvidere Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard three-star place in Glasgow‘s East End. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages, and this little gem proved me completely wrong with its 8.9 rating that actually feels earned rather than inflated.

The thing about staying in this part of Glasgow is that you’re getting the real deal – none of that touristy sanitized stuff you find closer to George Square. I mean, you’re genuinely in a proper Glasgow neighborhood where people actually live and work, which honestly gives you a much better feel for the city. The East End has this gritty authenticity that I found really refreshing, and Black Daisy sits right in the middle of it without trying to pretend it’s something fancy. The rooms are clean and comfortable (actually comfortable, not just marketing-speak comfortable), and while the décor won’t win any design awards, it’s got this unpretentious charm that somehow works. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night – I was worried about street noise, but the windows do their job well, and I slept better than I have at some four-star places that cost twice as much.

The staff here really make the difference though. They’re not following some corporate script – they’ll actually chat with you about where to grab the best fish and chips nearby (there’s a brilliant place just a few streets over that tourists never find), or which bus routes will get you into the city center fastest. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no upselling or lengthy explanations of amenities they don’t really have. And here’s something practical that matters more than fancy lobby décor – there’s decent parking available, which anyone who’s tried to park in central Glasgow will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The breakfast is simple but well done, proper Scottish stuff that fills you up without being too heavy. Sure, it’s not going to compete with some boutique hotel’s artisanal offerings, but sometimes you just want decent food without the fuss. If you’re looking for a place that gives you honest value and puts you in touch with real Glasgow rather than the postcard version, Black Daisy delivers exactly that – no more, no less, but done properly.

Reviews of Black Daisy

  • Wonderful – Julie from United Kingdom – August 9, 2025 (9/10)

Lovely house, easy to find and parking outside. We were there when the weather was hot so we sat outside most of the time as there is a nice wee garden area.
Well stocked kitchen, large fridge, dining table. Handy cloakroom toilet downstairs.
11am check out when similar properties are 10am, the extra hour in the morning makes all the difference!
    Very good communication from owner.
Close to the forge and easy taxi into city centre..
We would usually stay in the city centre, however would definitely stay here again.

What could be improved: As per previous reviews, the second bedroom really needs a proper bed. Teenager slept on it, but it would be uncomfortable for two adults.

Hair drier – I didn't bring mine but bought a cheap one from asda when we did the shopping.

Could do with mirrors in bedrooms near plug points. We had a lovely stay though.

  • Wonderful – Wendi from United States – July 2, 2025 (9/10)

Great central location, safe & accessible for our day trips in both Glasgow / Lochwinnoch & Stirling/Edinburgh areas! Monika/host great communicator. Easy check-in, clean, bright, updated, w/ full kitchen, fridge & cooking amenities. Master King bedroom very spacious & comfy bed! Would definitely stay again if in Glasgow area.

What could be improved: 1) 2nd bedroom bed/futon type was very low & (based on a pedestal) so tips if larger person gets in bed alone. Maybe best for 2 kids, but we traveled with another couple & regular size bed w/be much better.
    2) Better instruction needed for walk in shower. (Altho was nice to have bath tub with handheld shower attachment as backup).

  • Convenient location – Sui from Canada – June 17, 2025 (8/10)

Quiet neighborhood, has everything needed for a short stay

What could be improved: Hot water in the shower did not function well. Both water temperature and pressure were not adequate.

  • Very Good – Patricia from Australia – June 17, 2025 (8/10)

The property was amazing, disappointed that we were only staying for 1 night.

  • Lovely stay – Janine from Australia – May 12, 2025 (9/10)

It was very clean and well furnished. We were able to walk to a bus stop to get into the city. Nice area outside to enjoy the sunshine that we were lucky to have.

What could be improved: Microfibre teatowel wasn’t effective. Second bed was a touch on the small side.
