Look, I’ll be honest with you – the Britannia Inn Glasgow isn’t going to win any design awards, but there’s something oddly charming about this no-frills spot that keeps me coming back when I’m in town. It’s one of those places where you know exactly what you’re getting: clean beds, decent Scottish breakfast, and staff who actually seem to remember your face after the first night.

The thing about this place is its location – you’re properly in the heart of things without paying city center prices. I mean, you can walk to most of the main attractions without breaking a sweat, and honestly, that matters more than marble bathrooms when you’re trying to explore Glasgow properly. The rooms are… well, they’re functional. Don’t expect Instagram-worthy interiors, but the beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the heating actually works, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed. You know what really sold me though? The shower pressure is fantastic – sounds silly, but after a long day trudging around the city, that hot water hits different.

What I really appreciate is how the staff handle things – they’re not overly chatty, but they know their stuff about getting around the city. The guy at reception (think his name’s Dave?) once saved me a fortune by steering me away from the tourist trap restaurants and pointing me toward this brilliant little curry house round the corner. The breakfast room gets pretty busy around 8 AM, so if you’re not an early riser, either get down there by 7:30 or wait until after 9 when it calms down. And here’s a tip – the street can get a bit noisy on weekend nights, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs or ask for a room at the back. Parking‘s actually not terrible if you’re driving, though you’ll want to ask about the nearest spots when you check in because the streets around there can be a bit of a maze if you don’t know them. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But for the price point and the genuine Glasgow experience, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

  Lovely staff, great location. Very close to sauchihall street and bars + restaurants, short walk to the city centre.
  Just be mindful the nearby areas may feel a touch sketchy at nighttime, however it was a great short stay
