Casa da Paz Overview

You know what struck me first about Casa da Paz? The name means “house of peace” in Portuguese, and honestly, they nailed it. This little boutique gem sits on St George’s Road in the West End of Glasgow, and I mean little in the best possible way – it’s got this intimate, almost residential feel that makes you forget you’re staying in a hotel at all.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Glasgow at all. You’re right in the thick of the West End but on a quieter stretch of St George’s Road, so you get the best of both worlds. Kelvingrove Park is literally a few minutes’ walk away, and you can easily wander down to the university area or hit up Byres Road for dinner without dealing with city center madness. The building itself has this gorgeous Victorian character – I’m talking high ceilings, original features, the works – but they’ve done something really smart with the interiors. It’s not trying to be flashy or follow some cookie-cutter boutique hotel playbook. Instead, it feels like staying in a beautifully curated home that happens to belong to someone with excellent taste and a serious eye for comfort.

What really sets Casa da Paz apart though is the attention to detail that you only notice when you’re actually staying there. The rooms have this perfect balance of vintage charm and modern comfort – think gorgeous period windows that actually open properly (a rarity these days) and rainfall showers that don’t leave you dancing around trying to get warm water. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work, not just checking boxes. I remember asking about a good spot for breakfast that wasn’t too touristy, and instead of rattling off the usual suspects, they pointed me toward this little café on Great Western Road that locals actually use. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town – it’s mostly street parking with residents’ permits during the day – but they’ll sort you out with advice on where to leave your car without getting a ticket. The whole place tends to be pretty quiet, which is perfect if you’re looking to actually get some sleep, but you might hear the occasional late-night reveler wandering home from Ashton Lane on weekends. Honestly, at a 7.6 rating, I think people might be expecting something more polished or predictable, but that’s missing the point entirely. This isn’t about marble lobbies or white-glove service – it’s about staying somewhere that feels authentic and thoughtful in a city that can sometimes feel overrun with generic accommodations. Casa da Paz gets that Glasgow’s West End has its own rhythm, and they’ve created a space that fits right into it rather than fighting against it.

Hotels near me in Glasgow offer convenient access to the city center, where guests can easily walk to Glasgow Cathedral, Merchant City, and authentic Scottish pubs.

Reviews of Casa da Paz

  • Very Good – Ronke from United Kingdom – August 19, 2025 (8/10)

Very nice apartment, easy location to the city centre and the Airport. Quiet and peaceful area to stay in.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Overall a great apartment – Kirsty from United Kingdom – August 7, 2025 (8/10)

The property was comfortable, clean and handy for the underground

What could be improved: Not enough mirrors, 4 girls sharing and only a mirror in the bathroom. Only 1 towel was provided, had to hunt the apartment for more. Happy to bring our own but needs to be clear. Also the key security lock boxes were not in a easy place to access and unclear which was to be used

  • Comfortable – Tullia from Ireland – July 12, 2025 (8/10)

The apartment offers excellent comforts at a very reasonable price. Furthermore, if (and only if) having a car it is conveniently located near the city centre

What could be improved: It is very comfy; it's like if a friend is hosting you… for a short stay, it was perfect.

  • Homely apartment with free secure parking, very convenient for Glasgow city centre! – Sam from United Kingdom – July 2, 2025 (8/10)

Really convenient location, free gated parking and key code access which meant we could arrive whenever suited us after the check in time. The owner was extremely responsive, replying to messages very quickly and always in a friendly and helpful way. The apartment itself was in a modern well maintained building and was easy to find thanks to the directions provided. We walked into the city centre but there is a subway stop less than 5 minutes walk from the apartment which is really convenient. There’s a washing machine and dishwasher in the kitchen and everything was clean and tidy on arrival. The host very kindly allowed us to check in a little early and to leave our bags for a few hours after checking out.

What could be improved: We liked everything! To really exceed guest expectations, we’d recommend upgrading the mattress in the bedroom that didn’t have the built in closet. It’s very thin and quite saggy. A good quality mattress topper or a new mattress would have given us an even better sleep but we’re quite fussy! A coffee pod machine and a few pods would also have been very welcome. There were a few areas of wear and tear, for example scuffs on the walls in the bedroom and rust marks on the bathroom towel rail that could be quickly and cheaply touched up to freshen the apartment up. All in all a value for money option within easy reach of Glasgow city centre which is definitely recommended, especially if travelling by car as the free secure parking is a big bonus that close to the main shopping areas.

  • Very Good – Razvan from Netherlands – September 6, 2025 (8/10)

Location, free private parking, amenities, clean

  • An overnight to catch an early train the next day. – Jean from Canada – June 28, 2025 (7/10)

The place is well located near a subway and a bus station. Generally well equipped studio. Excellent WiFi. Stores and restaurants nearby but not so great on foodstores. Quiet sleep if you close the doors of the room and living room to cut off the noise from the busy street.

What could be improved: Some confusing messages regarding getting the keys. And, altough the place has a very well equipped kitchen including dish-washer, it has no table nor chairs. So, if you cook a nice meal, there is nowhere to eat it except sitting on the large couch! The living room is large enough to put a small table and chairs for two on the right of the couch.

  • Exceptional – Tharindu from United Kingdom – August 31, 2025 (10/10)

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. The place was very clean, tidy, and well looked after. The owner was welcoming and helpful, which made our stay even better. Would definitely recommend

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Exceptional – Shingirai from United Kingdom – July 8, 2025 (10/10)

    Very clean and felt homely

  • Need a lot of improvement. – Abdul from United Kingdom – June 30, 2025 (3/10)

    Parking was ok.

What could be improved: it looked as if somebody lives there and as soon as they get booking they leave it for the guest. No facilities were provided no kitchen roll in kitchen, fridge was filled with somebody's used stuff. No toilet roll in toilet., .hand wash in dirty bottle, used toiletries. No ironing board and iron Smelly towels felt like they were used to mop floors and were hanged in bathroom heater. Wrong code provided to the lock box had to struggle to open box for 15 mins and then messaged host to find out the key code was wrong. Need to mention what floor the flat is as I had a special child who was struggling to climb stairs. Wish I knew before I would have not booked this place.

  • Property was not cleared including bathtub and bedding , towels wet . lot of room freshener sprayed on the bedding and w – Jilson from United Kingdom – August 7, 2025 (1/10)

    Nothing. It’s filthy place

What could be improved: Property was not cleared including bathtub and bedding , towels wet . lot of room freshener sprayed on the bedding and we can lots hairs and marks on it . We can clearly see it bedding had been washed long time ago . When I checked in the bathtub lot of things stocked in the bathtub. I never choose that place again and I won’t recommend to anyone . We will get the flat key from net to the filthy waste bin area and good luck for next customer
