Clyde Villa Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Clyde Villa on Ardneil Road, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a converted Victorian house in the South side. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t shout about themselves from the street.
The thing about this 4-star spot is that it sits in one of those quiet residential pockets of Glasgow where you actually get some peace, but you’re still only a quick bus ride or taxi into the city center. I mean, the South side gets overlooked by a lot of visitors who stick to the West End or Merchant City, but honestly, that’s their loss. The neighborhood around here has that proper Glasgow feel – real locals going about their business, decent pubs within walking distance, and none of that touristy bustle that can get exhausting after a while. Parking‘s actually manageable too, which anyone who’s tried to find a spot near Buchanan Street will appreciate.
What struck me about the villa itself was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Victorian character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms have these lovely high ceilings and original features, but the beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in period properties, let’s be real), and the bathrooms are properly modern. The staff seemed to actually know the area well – when I asked about getting to the Burrell Collection, they didn’t just point me toward Google Maps but gave me the lowdown on which bus to catch and mentioned that the café there was worth the visit. You get that kind of local insight here that the big chain hotels just can’t offer. The breakfast was solid too, nothing fancy but done right, with proper Scottish bacon and coffee that didn’t taste like it had been sitting around for hours.
With an 8.1 rating, it’s clearly doing something right, and after spending a few nights there, I can see why. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Glasgow, but it gets the fundamentals spot on – clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and run by people who seem to care about what they’re doing. The area might not have the immediate wow factor of staying right on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh or in Glasgow’s trendy quarters, but there’s something refreshing about experiencing a city from a more authentic angle. Plus, when you’re heading back after a long day exploring the Kelvingrove or catching a show, having a quiet street to return to instead of stumbling through crowds of hen parties feels like a proper luxury.

Reviews of Clyde Villa
lovely house, very clean – Boddy from United Kingdom – July 19, 2024 (9/10)
The property was lovely and clean.
Not too far away from centre 20 min uber ride.
What could be improved: The location was a little bit rough considering the amount we paid for the property and for people who dont know the area it was a bit of a shock.Wonderful – Dan from United Kingdom – June 2, 2024 (9/10)
Good facilities, well stocked.
What could be improved: Perhaps checkout being 11am but really not the end of the world.Wonderful – Nishit from Belgium – August 10, 2023 (9/10)

As advertised, clean, very comfortable, modern, great location. No issues with street parking or using key box. Wifi and TV’s all working perfectly. Thanks for providing us a great experience
What could be improved: Nothing to write hereNice property very poorly managed – Paul from United Kingdom – August 15, 2024 (4/10)
Very nice property.
What could be improved: Very poorly managed. We reported an infestation of flying ants on our second day. Property maintenance were allegedly informed of this, but they never appeared despite further complaints. We were told to buy ant killer and we would be refunded. We bought ant killer and sent a photo of the receipt but were never refunded.
There is no information regarding the appliances or WiFi in the property.
It's a nice property but if something goes wrong you're on your own. There's no customer service.Exceptional – Nefeli from Cyprus – June 28, 2024 (10/10)
Excellent communication with the property team. The location was good. The bus station was a five minute walk. The house had all the appliances from kitchen appliances to bathroom ones.
Wonderful – Stanislav from Czech Republic – June 9, 2024 (9/10)
Dům je velký, jsou tam tři ložnice. Ve dvou manželská postel, v jedné dvě samostatné postele. Dole obývák a kuchyně.
What could be improved: Trošku mimo centrum, na metro je to 15 minut pěšky, kousek od ubytka jezdí bus, ale na ten je jiný lístek než na metro.Exceptional – Elio from Belgium – April 9, 2023 (10/10)
