Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow SEC Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow SEC, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like another business hotel. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The location is brilliant if you’re doing anything around the Scottish Event Campus (hence the SEC in the name), and I mean literally a stone’s throw away from the SSE Hydro and all that action along the Clyde. You can practically roll out of bed and catch a concert or exhibition, which is pretty sweet if that’s your thing.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to make a modern chain hotel feel… well, not soulless. The lobby has this warm, welcoming vibe that doesn’t scream “corporate,” and honestly, the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there – always a good sign. The rooms are what you’d expect from Marriott but with thoughtful touches that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. Good blackout curtains (crucial in Scottish summers when it stays light forever), decent shower pressure, and – this might sound silly but it matters – outlets exactly where you need them for charging your phone by the bed. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here.
Here’s the thing about this part of Glasgow though – it’s not exactly the touristy city center, so you’ll want to factor in getting around. But that’s actually kind of perfect if you’re not into the hustle and bustle every second of your trip. The riverside location is genuinely peaceful, especially in the evening when you can walk along the Clyde and watch the city lights reflect on the water. Plus, getting into the heart of Glasgow is easy enough with decent transport links, and parking here doesn’t make you want to cry like it does in the city center. I stayed during a busy conference week and the hotel handled the crowds really well – no crazy wait times at breakfast, elevators moved efficiently, and somehow they kept things running smoothly without that frantic energy you sometimes get at overbooked places.

The staff were all lovely! The dinner was ok (the only reason marked a 9 instead of 10) i thought for the price the meals were very small. We did get a glass with lipstick on but as soon as we pointed it out we were apologised to and this was changed straight away. The room was a great size and the bed was very comfy and the room was also very clean. Because we were going to the hydro the location of this hotel was great right over the road which ended up being even better because it was raining after the show. The breakfast had to be the best part of the whole stay though lots to choose from, proper scottish breakfast and lovely juice selection too.
I didnt get to catch their names but the receptionist and the host of breakfast really stood out to me as they were very welcoming and warm people i will definitely be back 😁
