I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Craigmaddie Muir Roundhouse with Hot Tub Romantic, Luxury, Rural Stay for 2 Near Milngavie, I thought the name was a bit of a mouthful. But you know what? Once you actually get there, everything makes perfect sense. This isn’t just some converted cottage they’re calling unique – it’s literally a restored Victorian railway roundhouse sitting in the middle of nowhere, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The drive out from Milngavie takes you through some proper Scottish countryside, the kind where you’ll pass more sheep than cars for the last few miles. Actually, that’s part of the charm – by the time you pull up to this circular stone building, you feel like you’ve discovered something secret. The whole place has this industrial-meets-romantic vibe that somehow works brilliantly. Inside, they’ve kept the original curved walls and high ceilings, but added all the luxury touches you’d want for a proper getaway. The hot tub (which, let’s face it, is probably why you’re considering this place) sits outside with views across the moor that go on forever. I mean, on a clear evening, you can see the Campsie Fells rolling away in the distance while you’re soaking – it’s pretty special.

What really got me was the attention to detail though. The stone floors are heated (crucial when you’re padding around in a towel), there’s a proper log fire that actually works, and the kitchen is kitted out well enough that you could cook something decent if you wanted to stay in. The bed is massive and ridiculously comfortable – I’m talking the kind of mattress that makes you question your life choices at home. Honestly, the whole setup feels like someone took a luxury hotel suite and dropped it into the Scottish highlands, minus the other guests and reception desk hassles. The nearest neighbors are probably a mile away, so you can enjoy the hot tub at 2am without worrying about anyone. Just be prepared for how dark it gets out there – on cloudy nights, it’s properly pitch black, which is either romantic or slightly terrifying depending on your perspective. The rating of 9.9 doesn’t surprise me at all – this is the sort of place that makes you want to delete your social media apps and just exist for a weekend. Fair warning though: you’ll spend most of your time here alternating between the hot tub, the fire, and that incredible bed, so don’t plan on being particularly productive.

  The whole stay was absolutely amazing. Kindly, the host met us on arrival to show us around and explain how things work. The environment is SO peaceful, perfect for a quiet getaway. The hot tub was super warm and perfect despite the windy weather. The bed was extremely comfy, shower spacious and the kitchenette allowed us to make some food too which was everything we needed as didn't want to go out for food. We also got to see some deers and make a fire in the hut. Can't top this place. Would highly recommend
