Honestly, I walked past the Crookston Hotel three times before I realized I’d found it – and that’s actually part of its charm. Tucked away on Crookston Road in the south side of Glasgow, this place doesn’t scream “hotel” from the street, which I mean, is refreshing when you’re tired of those cookie-cutter chain places. It’s got this understated boutique vibe that feels more like staying at a stylish friend’s place than a typical hotel. The building itself has character – you know, the kind of solid Scottish architecture that’s been around long enough to have stories but has been thoughtfully updated without losing its soul.

What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel both intimate and polished at the same time. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Glasgow, after all), but they’re cleverly designed with these little touches that show someone actually thought about how real people use hotel rooms. I’m talking about proper lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and – this might sound silly – but the curtains actually block out light when you want to sleep in. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing too, which isn’t always a given with smaller places. They’re the type who remember your name and can point you toward the good curry place down the road without you having to ask twice.

Location-wise, you’re not in the thick of the West End or city center action, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s properly connected – you can get into town easily enough, and there’s something nice about coming back to a quieter street after a day of exploring Glasgow’s busier bits. The area’s got that authentic residential feel where you’ll see actual Glaswegians going about their daily business, not just tourists wandering around with maps. Parking‘s not a nightmare here either, which anyone who’s tried to find a spot in the city center will appreciate. I’d say the 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in the city, but it does what it does well, with genuine attention to detail and without the pretension you sometimes get with boutique hotels. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a proper local discovery rather than the obvious choice, this place delivers on that front.

  What could be improved: Music from the main bar area, but it was a friday night tbf

  The room was recently refurbished and very comfortable. There was a nespreso machine in the room.
  
  What could be improved: I had asked for a quiet room and was put in a small room right above the kitchen with a loud blaring extractor fan which belched cooking smells into the room with the window open (it was so hot and no air conditioning). There was some boiler or machinery on the other side of the wall from the bed which was very loud but eventually went off sometime at night.

  The staff were so friendly. A waitress on our first morning was brilliant with our little 3 year old. The night porter was also lovely and ensured that our taxi was coming. All in all, it was great value for money and the breakfast was lovely. It was so close to the train station into the city.
  
  What could be improved: It could do with a fresh bit of paint to freshen it up. It was quite loud for the fri and sat night. But it settled about 11/12 which was fine. It didn't take away from the nice experience at the hotel.

  What could be improved: It had a loud bar and some locals language was a bit salty, so maybe not for families. But you couldn't hear the bar area at the bedroom so still quiet in your room

  Missed breakfast as I had a very early hospital appointment but my wife liked hers. Staff were all friendly and the place was clean. Enjoyed dinner the night we stayed too and a pub quiz!
