You know what caught me off guard about Crosshill House? It’s one of those places that looks perfectly respectable from the outside – classic four-star setup, neat facade, all the boxes checked – but then you actually stay there and realize it’s got some quirks that honestly make it feel more like staying at your slightly eccentric aunt’s house than a proper hotel.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s bad, just… well, it has character. The kind of character that means sometimes the shower takes a minute to warm up, and the floorboards in the hallway have this particular creak that you’ll learn to navigate around if you’re trying to sneak back late without waking the entire floor. The rooms themselves are comfortable enough – decent beds, reasonable space, and they’ve clearly made an effort with the decor, though it’s that safe, inoffensive style that could be anywhere really. What I actually appreciated was how quiet it gets at night (once you’re past the creaky floorboard situation), and the staff genuinely seem to care, even if they’re not always the most polished in their approach. The breakfast situation is perfectly adequate – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but you won’t leave hungry either.

Here’s the thing though – and this might sound weird given that 6.5 rating it’s got – there’s something oddly endearing about the place. Maybe it’s because your expectations aren’t sky-high going in, so when little things go right, it feels like a pleasant surprise. The check-in was smoother than expected, parking was actually easier to sort than I thought it would be, and I mean, for a four-star place, it delivers on the basics without any major disasters. It’s the kind of spot where you might not rave about it to everyone you meet, but you also wouldn’t warn people away from it. If you’re the type who needs everything to be Instagram-perfect and seamlessly efficient, you might find yourself a bit frustrated. But if you can roll with a few minor imperfections and appreciate that not every hotel needs to be a cookie-cutter experience, Crosshill House has this understated charm that grows on you. Just maybe pack some patience along with your usual travel essentials.

Hotel in Glasgow booking should be done early, especially during summer festival season when the city hosts internationally celebrated performances at iconic venues like the SSE Hydro.

  The room was well lit and tidy. The bathroom was clean and was stocked up with shower gel, which smelt very nice. The double bed was comfy and we were able to sleep very well. The room location was good and quiet as well.

  The property itself is lovely. It’s quiet and close to everything. Very good location if you’re a traveller. It’s clean and minimalist and there is free parking.

  Very conveniently located very close to the nearest railway station. The shower was simply excellent with a large shower head. Did feel really freshened up after using it.
