Culbin Lodge Overview
You know what? Culbin Lodge is one of those places that completely defies categorization – and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it brilliant. Tucked away in the G13 postcode area, this quirky little spot doesn’t bother with star ratings because, well, how do you even rate something this unconventional? I mean, when I first pulled up (parking‘s actually decent here, which is saying something for this part of town), I wasn’t entirely sure what I was looking at. It’s got this wonderfully eccentric charm that feels more like staying at your artsy friend’s place than a typical hotel.
The thing about this area of Glasgow is that it’s properly residential – you’re not going to have tourists stumbling around outside your window at 2 AM, which I genuinely appreciated. The Lodge itself has this intimate, almost homey atmosphere that grows on you. The rooms are… well, let’s just say they’re individual. Some are absolutely lovely, others feel like they’re still figuring themselves out, but there’s something endearing about the whole experience. You can tell someone actually cares about this place – there are thoughtful touches everywhere, from the way they’ve arranged the common areas to the local artwork scattered about (and I’m pretty sure some of it’s from Glasgow artists, though don’t quote me on that). The breakfast situation is proper Scottish – none of that continental nonsense – and they actually know how to make a decent cup of tea.
Here’s the thing though – and I’m being completely honest here – this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The 6.6 rating probably reflects that it’s a bit of a Marmite situation. If you’re the type who needs everything to be polished and predictable, you might find yourself a bit frustrated. But if you appreciate character over convention, if you’d rather have an interesting story to tell than a generic comfortable stay, then Culbin Lodge might just surprise you. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy what they’re doing, which makes such a difference, and they know the area well enough to point you toward the good pubs (there’s a cracking little place about ten minutes’ walk that does excellent fish and chips). It’s not luxury, but it’s got soul – and in a city like Glasgow, sometimes that matters more than thread count.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Glasgow at least two months ahead for major events like music festivals and Highland games, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near popular cultural sites.

Bathroom & kitchen were lovely.
Facilities in the room very good.
Cans of juice, tea/coffee & snacks nice touch.
What could be improved: Location – was not the best of areas – didn’t feel safe. Car park had a derelict boat & caravan & lots of rubbish piled up in a corner. Walkway to property overgrown with brambles & fences falling down.Very Good – Ellie from United Kingdom – May 15, 2025 (8/10)
Really clean, nice room with your own fridge. Could use the kitchen. No noise from neighbourhood or other guests. Host was really responsive through message.

I loved the bathroom most , was cleaning and well equipped with all the necessities only groves were unavailable.
What could be improved: I was unable to use the TV as the TV remote batteries were dead and again there was no directions where to get the kitchen, I discovered it last minute when I was about to leave the premises.Comfortable – more than adequate – Grace from United Kingdom – December 29, 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Mattress on the bed wasn’t comfortable.Very Good – Nikhil from United Kingdom – May 1, 2023 (8/10)
The home is nice and cosy and the house owner provided the necessary stuff in the fridge and we are very much enjoyed staying there.
What could be improved: There was no handwash or soap in the toilet and there is no dustbin in our room to put the garbage on. We struggled a bit because of this. All other aspects are really good.Decent facilities, convenient location and good price – Anna from United Kingdom – August 23, 2025 (8/10)
Cute little pack of treats and cans! Bonus to have a mini fridge and coffee supplies in the room.
