Dunmore Rooftop Overview
You know what struck me first about Dunmore Rooftop? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s not some marketing gimmick. This place sits right on Dunmore Lane in the Southside, and honestly, the rooftop views over Glasgow are pretty spectacular, especially when the light hits the city center just right in the evening. I mean, you’re looking out over a proper slice of Glasgow life from up there, not just tourist landmarks.
The location is one of those gems that locals probably walk past without thinking twice about, but it works brilliantly if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Glasgow rather than some sterile hotel district. You’re a quick walk to the Merchant City area, and the train connections are solid – I found myself hopping over to the West End without any hassle. What I really appreciated was how quiet Dunmore Lane itself is, even though you’re close enough to everything that matters. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s Glasgow city center, after all), but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in.
The hotel itself has that comfortable, unpretentious feel that I actually prefer over fancier places. It’s a solid 3-star spot, but the 8.7 rating feels earned – everything just works properly. The rooms are well thought out, nothing fancy but genuinely comfortable, and the staff seem to actually know the area well enough to give you proper recommendations, not just the obvious tourist stuff. I had a great chat with someone at reception about where to grab breakfast nearby (there’s this little café around the corner that does incredible bacon rolls, by the way). The rooftop space is definitely the highlight though – not huge or fancy, but it’s got character and those views I mentioned. Perfect for a drink if the weather cooperates, which in Glasgow… well, you take your chances. But when it works, it really works. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to explore more of the Southside or just have a base that feels authentically Glasgow without being right in the thick of the weekend chaos on Sauchiehall Street.
