For Students Only Dobbie’s Point in Glasgow Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about For Students Only Dobbie’s Point in Glasgow, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a student-focused hotel. But after staying there during my last trip to Glasgow, I actually get why it works so well, even if you’re not hitting the books anymore.

The location on North Hanover Street is pretty clever, actually. You’re right in the heart of Central Glasgow, which means you can walk to most of the city’s main attractions without breaking a sweat. I mean, the Gallery of Modern Art is literally around the corner, and you’re maybe a five-minute stroll from Buchanan Street if you need to do some shopping. What I really appreciated though was how quiet it gets at night – despite being central, it’s tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise. The building itself has this sort of converted feel to it, nothing too fancy but clean and functional in that no-nonsense Scottish way.

Here’s the thing about staying at a student hotel when you’re not a student – it’s refreshingly unpretentious. The staff actually seem to care about helping you figure out the city rather than just checking boxes, and honestly, the other guests tend to be pretty interesting to chat with. The rooms are compact but well thought out, with decent WiFi (which matters more than people admit) and surprisingly good water pressure in the showers. You know what surprised me most? The common areas actually get used – there’s usually someone around to ask for recommendations, and I picked up some great tips about local pubs that way. The whole place has this relaxed energy that makes it easy to settle in, even if you’re just passing through for a few days. Sure, it’s not going to win any luxury awards, but sometimes you want a place that feels real rather than polished to within an inch of its life. Plus, with an 8.5 rating, clearly other people are figuring out what I did – that sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that don’t try too hard to impress you.

Apartments in Glasgow provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional Scottish markets and experience daily life in historic Victorian neighborhoods.

Reviews of For Students Only Dobbie’s Point in Glasgow

  • Very nice stay in Glasgow – The booking process could have been smoother … – Volker from Germany – September 7, 2025 (8/10)

Very nice accomodation for a stay in Glasgow! Single ensuite rooms – everything you need is included (even a welcome package with soap, tea etc.). There are special rooms for studying/working and even a gym! Nice and helpful staff at the 24/7 reception. Without the irritating (post-) booking process it would be an entire 10/10!

What could be improved: The days before our arrival we got several mails that looked like phishing mails (the sender was not the student hall, but a rather obscure company), saying we should upload pictures of our passports to a just as much obscure website. It went so far that we were informed our booking had been cancelled due to not reacting to these emails.
Actually the bookings are handled by a service company. It would have been easy to inform us immediately after our booking about that – the whole thing could have been much more less annoying!!!

  • Wonderful – Carla from United Kingdom – August 25, 2025 (9/10)
