Glades House Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Glades House, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name had this sort of mysterious, countryside feel to it, and you know what? It actually delivers on that promise. This is one of those 4-star places that feels like someone’s elegant family home that just happens to have really good housekeeping and a proper front desk.
The thing that struck me right away was how quiet everything felt, even during check-in. Not dead quiet – more like that comfortable hush you get in well-designed spaces where the acoustics just work. The lobby has these gorgeous hardwood floors that creak just slightly when you walk across them (in a charming way, not a “this place is falling apart” way), and there’s always this faint scent of something floral mixed with old wood. Actually reminds me a bit of my grandmother’s house, if my grandmother had impeccable taste and a serious budget for furniture.
What really sold me on the place was the attention to details that most hotels completely miss. The room keys are actual keys – not those plastic cards that never work on the first try – attached to these heavy brass keychains that feel substantial in your pocket. The beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand, but soft enough that I ended up sleeping past my alarm two mornings in a row. And honestly, the shower pressure is exactly what you hope for after a long day of wandering around – strong enough to actually rinse shampoo out of your hair, which is apparently asking too much at some places.
The staff here seems to actually remember your name after the first conversation, which is sort of rare these days. I mean, they’re not hovering over you or anything intrusive like that, but when you walk past the front desk, there’s usually a genuine “good morning” with your actual name attached. Small thing, but it makes a difference when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything just… works. The kind of place where you don’t have to think about whether the Wi-Fi will connect or if housekeeping will actually show up.
If you’re the type of person who needs a pool, a gym, and three restaurants on-site, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want somewhere that feels like a home base rather than a pit stop – somewhere you can spread out your stuff and not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase – then Glades House hits that sweet spot. It’s got character without being quirky, comfortable without being boring, and professional without feeling corporate. Plus, parking is straightforward (no valet nonsense or confusing garage levels), which saves you at least one minor travel headache.

Host robert actually made me tea. Gave me a map and directions to a grocer. Convenient to the rail station and within half mile of several bus lines headed into town. Has American washer and drier which meant all my clothes were finally dry. Huge comfy bed. Sink in room. Full kitchen so I did several of my own meals.
Charles from Spain (9/10)

Jocelyn from Australia (9/10)
We had a great room on the ground floor, spacious and warm and the beds were extremely comfortable. Our check-in/welcome from Robert was warm and friendly – he gave us great local advice and suggestions and made sure we were able to contact him for anything we needed. Good kitchen and laundry facilities and there are supermarkets close for supplies. It is not close to the city centre, but there is a train station at the end of the street, so was easy to get to places we needed.
Stefka from United Kingdom (8/10)
Location,quiet and a comfortable
Antonio from United Kingdom (9/10)
Flexibility from the owner. There was a last minute leak in the ensuite, so Robert refunded me whilst keeping the room and letting me using the shared bathroom. Fair behaviour.
