Glasgow City Centre Studio Apartment Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Glasgow City Centre Studio Apartment on Blackfriars Road, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes these unassuming spots surprise you, and this one actually grew on me during my stay.

The location is pretty solid if you’re trying to explore Glasgow properly. You’re right there in the East End, which I mean, isn’t the poshest part of town, but it’s got character and you’re literally walking distance to the Merchant City area where all the good bars and restaurants are hiding. The flat itself is tucked into one of those classic Victorian tenement buildings – you know the type, red sandstone with those gorgeous high ceilings that make even a studio feel less cramped. The building’s got some age on it (you’ll hear your neighbors occasionally), but there’s something charming about staying somewhere that feels authentically Glasgow rather than some sterile hotel chain.

What I actually liked about this place was how practical everything felt. The studio’s set up efficiently – not fancy, but whoever designed it clearly understood what travelers actually need. The kitchen area’s small but functional (I managed to make proper coffee each morning, which honestly matters more than thread count to me), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The bed was comfortable enough, though the pillows were a bit soft for my liking – minor complaint really. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but there’s street parking if you’re patient, and honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. I walked to the cathedral in about ten minutes, caught a bus to the West End easily, and stumbled back from some excellent pubs on Virginia Street without any drama. The building’s entrance is straightforward to find, though the flat numbers can be a bit confusing at first – typical Glasgow tenement setup where you’re counting doors and hoping for the best. Check-in was smooth enough, no complaints there. The 6.9 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. If you’re the type who wants luxury amenities and room service, look elsewhere. But if you want a decent base to explore the city without breaking the bank, and you appreciate staying somewhere that feels like actual Glasgow rather than tourist Glasgow, this studio works well enough.

Best hotels in Glasgow range from luxurious properties in the historic city center to boutique hotels with stunning views of the River Clyde and magnificent Victorian architecture.

Reviews of Glasgow City Centre Studio Apartment

  • Everything you could need for a short city break. – Patrick from United Kingdom – June 22, 2025 (8/10)

The property had everything you could need for a short stay. It was very clean and functional. Easy access. Clear instructions and good value for money.

  • A very cost-effective dormitory with convenient transportation and shopping, suitable for travel. – Shengyao from China – September 12, 2024 (8/10)

The facilities are complete, you can cook for yourself, there is a washing machine for washing clothes, and the living area is large if you are a single person.

What could be improved: The door lock is old and difficult to use, the bathroom is small, and the room is not soundproofed. You can hear people walking in the corridor at night.

  • Perefect for a quick stay within a 10 minute stay of George Square – Jennifer from Canada – June 13, 2023 (8/10)

    location to downtown

What could be improved: Needs a few more amenities and black out curtains would make a really nice addition

  • Pleasant – Joy from United Kingdom – May 6, 2025 (6/10)

Secure building. Fairly quiet. Easy walk to city centre, bus and train stations. Quite well equipped. Comfy bed.

What could be improved: Lack of cooking equipment. Freezer part of fridge iced up. Storage of extra vacuum cleaner in wardrobe. Meagre supply of toilet roll. Fleece throw and mattress topper need washing. Dusty skirting boards, window not clean. Charge for linen hidden.

  • Pleasant – Korndolly from United Kingdom – September 5, 2024 (6/10)

Location is great. Bed was comfortable. Shower worked well. Nice little place to stay to explore Glasgow.

What could be improved: Not enough cutlery for two people so had to eat out, I had intended on cooking. Lock on door was tricky to use.

  • Great stay for the budget traveller who wants more space than a normal hotel room. – Ian from Australia – July 20, 2024 (8/10)

Great location near University facilities where I was conferencing. Aldi store next door so was able to buy provisions for the seven night stay. Cooking facilities in room were all in good working order. Good range of restaurants in easy walking distance with good quality food and range of prices.

What could be improved: The only fault I found was that the blind over the bed was not a blackout blind so the room remained light until 10pm and the rising sun woke me at 3.30am, due to the UK summertime.

  • Apartment in great location in Glasgow. – Jackie from New Zealand – August 26, 2023 (8/10)

Location was excellent. It was good to have cooking facilities.

What could be improved: The bed was uncomfortable. There was not enough toilet paper provided. The kitchenware was very basic.

  • OK place for a short stay close to town. – Leigh from Australia – November 17, 2024 (6/10)

The location was pretty good. Kitchen for self catering. Washing machine in the room.

What could be improved: The lift didn’t work from the ground floor. We needed to use the stairs to the first floor and the lift worked from there.

  • Was quayet and peas full – Tomalak from United Kingdom – May 21, 2024 (6/10)

    Nearly center and bus station

What could be improved: Apartment should be refresh. Oven and hob same and toilet looks like in carawan

  • Decent – Mauricio from United Kingdom – March 24, 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location in the city centre of Glasgow!!

What could be improved: A black out would be perfect!!
