Glasgow City Centre Waterfront Apartment Overview

You know what really struck me about Glasgow City Centre Waterfront Apartment? It’s one of those places where the name actually tells you exactly what you’re getting – and honestly, that’s refreshing. Perched up on the 9th floor of the Icon Building on Maxwell Street, this 4-star spot gives you proper views of the Clyde without the eye-watering price tag of some of those fancy riverside hotels.

I mean, Glasgow‘s waterfront has come such a long way from what it used to be, and staying here really lets you appreciate that transformation. The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room – there’s a proper kitchen where you can make your morning coffee (essential, because let’s be honest, hotel coffee is usually tragic), and the living space is generous enough that you’re not tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. The building’s modern but not flashy, and the lift actually works reliably, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. What I particularly liked was how quiet it stays despite being right in the city centre – the double glazing does its job, though you’ll still hear the occasional late-night reveler on weekends, but that’s Glasgow for you.

The location is actually brilliant for getting around. You’re a proper walk to the Merchant City area (maybe 8-10 minutes if you don’t dawdle), and the train station’s close enough that you can hear the announcements if you open the windows – which sounds annoying but is actually quite handy for timing your departures. There’s a Tesco Metro practically around the corner, which became my best friend for grabbing breakfast bits and wine for the evening. The waterfront itself is perfect for morning jogs or just wandering about – I spent ages watching the boats and trying to figure out what all those new developments going up are supposed to be. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare during the day (street parking fills up fast with office workers), but evenings and weekends aren’t too bad if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s solid, comfortable, and does exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. Not luxury, but definitely a step above your average city centre crash pad, and the kind of place where you actually want to spend time rather than just sleeping between sightseeing sessions.

Reviews of Glasgow City Centre Waterfront Apartment

  • Very Good – Liam from United Kingdom – April 13, 2025 (8/10)

The smell of weed in the lobby until entering the property

  • A compact but well positioned, comfortable and well equipped apartment in need of a bit of TLC. – David from United Kingdom – August 20, 2024 (8/10)

Excellent location, easy walk into city centre, nice view. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and plenty of hot water.

What could be improved: Very small en-suite bathroom, anyone of larger proportions would have trouble sitting on the toilet! Some things needed to be repaired or replaced. Main blind in largest bedroom was broken and impossible to close, would not suit anyone who needs a darkened room to sleep. Cabinet in lounge had sliding glass doors, one of which was no longer attached properly so care needed to open and close, possible hazard with children. Whilst generally clean, I needed to move the bed to access a plug socket and found various items left behind there.

  • Central & comfy – Brenda from United Kingdom – February 20, 2024 (7/10)

    Good location

What could be improved: Expensive to park in the Qpark carpark, don’t understand why the basement carpark wasn’t available?? Plenty of space there!

  • Great apartment. Easy access to train stations. – Jonathan from New Zealand – January 16, 2024 (8/10)

    Location

What could be improved: Loud echoey floors.

  • Affordable Apartment with Nice Views and Great Location. – Yong from Singapore – November 2, 2023 (9/10)

The views are spectacular facing the river and south bank and instragram worthy pictures taken.

The location is superb, easy to find parking, near shopping mall and public transports and plenty of eatery and local supermarket nearby.

The furnishings are wonderful and we love the beds.

You can enjoy streaming netflix movies, and plenty of channels are available.

The kitchen has some sauces, salts, pepper, and gravy powder for easy cooking.

What could be improved: The washing machine and dryer do not work, and by day 2, the handyman engaged by the property manager officially declares it end of life. We have mopped the floor as it does not drain away water and it hardly washes as it stop washing after 5 to 10 minutes and we have to open the door to let the water out and manually squeeze the cloths dry.

The entrances smell a little bit mushy. There are minor wear and tears. The heater is mouldy, and the main toilet fan does not work.

My unit does not have a parking lot for the accommodation and has to park at Q Parking next door, which is relatively affordable for 3 full day parking.

The basement does not smell nice. It will be very dark if the sensors do not work.

  • Wonderful – John from United Kingdom – October 25, 2023 (9/10)

  • Great location and nice place to stay – Michael from United Kingdom – October 2, 2023 (9/10)

Location is superb. Plenty of space with 3 good size bedrooms .Apartment block itself was quiet. Had iron/ironing board which was needed and all the mod cons and home comforts. Very good all round

  • September Girls Weekend – Claire from United Kingdom – September 26, 2023 (9/10)

    Fantastic location, really central.
    Fabulous view of the river.
Comfy rooms and spacious apartment. There were 4 of us and we all had our own space.
Great communication from the property owners.

What could be improved: We had an issue with the washing machine but the owners were quick to assure us it would be fixed. Not a big issue for a weekend stay.

  • We like the place apart from the heaters. – Yolanda from Singapore – May 28, 2023 (7/10)

    nice view. spacious. clean

What could be improved: heaters did not working well.

  • Wonderful – Keren from Israel – April 7, 2023 (9/10)

The apartment is in a good and comfortable location. Well equipped and clean

What could be improved: ‏the mattresses were uncomfortable maybe it's a personal thing but I prefer a hard mattress and it felt like an old and sunken mattress
