Glasgow City Flats – Merchant City Overview
You know what struck me first about Glasgow City Flats – Merchant City? It’s actually in one of those gorgeous Victorian buildings that makes you slow down and look up at the stonework as you’re walking by. I mean, the Merchant City area is already pretty stunning architecturally, but this place sits right in the heart of it all where you can practically feel the history in the cobblestones.
The flats themselves are honestly more spacious than I expected – and I’ve stayed in a lot of city center accommodations that feel like glorified closets. These have that high-ceiling thing going on that you get in older Glasgow buildings, which makes even a studio feel pretty grand. The kitchens are actually functional too, not just for show, which is brilliant if you want to grab some fresh stuff from the Merchant City Market on weekends or cook something simple instead of eating out every night. What really got me though was how quiet it stays, even being right in the thick of things. The windows are solid, and honestly, Glasgow‘s Merchant City isn’t as chaotic as you might think anyway – it’s more cultured busy than party-district rowdy.
Location-wise, you’re literally steps from some of the best spots in the city center. The Gallery of Modern Art is practically next door, and you can walk to Buchanan Street in about five minutes when you need that shopping fix. But here’s the thing locals know – Virginia Street and Miller Street have these incredible little independent shops and cafes that tourists usually miss completely. I spent way too much time (and money) at the vintage stores just around the corner. Plus, getting to the West End is dead easy from here – the subway’s close, or honestly, it’s a nice walk through the city center if the weather’s cooperating. The whole area comes alive in the evenings too, especially on weekends, but in that sophisticated way where you’ve got theater crowds mixing with people heading to proper restaurants, not just pub crawls. With a 9.4 rating, clearly other people are picking up on what makes this place special – it’s got that perfect balance of being right in the action while still feeling like you have your own proper space to retreat to.
Hotel in Glasgow booking should be done early, especially during summer festival season when the city hosts internationally celebrated performances at iconic venues like the SSE Hydro.

Reviews of Glasgow City Flats – Merchant City
Raphaël from France (10/10)
Exquisite 2 bedroom apartment in Merchant City, this spacious flat is walking distance from every interesting landmark in downtown Glasgow (notably the Cathedral, George Square, the various stations, the Clyde river etc.).
We were very happy about the cleanliness, the very complete equipment in the kitchen, the comfort in the rooms.
We also booked a parking space in the building’s protected parking lot, which was very convenient.
Modern, spacious and comfortable, also the staff were welcoming and helpful!Grant from United Kingdom (9/10)

Rhonda from Australia (9/10)
This apartment was great value and in a pretty good location, within walking distance to the station, bus stops, Christmas markets and the centre of town. The bed was pretty comfortable and the apartment itself was super warm and cosy. Graham met us at the location and, although we were running a little late, he still spent the time showing us around and explaining how everything worked.
