My room was clean enough, though I noticed the carpet had seen better days and there was this persistent smell of old wood and something I couldn’t quite place. The heating worked (crucial in Glasgow, trust me), but the radiator made these random clanking sounds that took some getting used to. On the plus side, the windows actually opened properly, which is more than I can say for a lot of budget places.

Here’s the thing about this part of town – you’re walking distance to some decent pubs that locals actually drink at, not tourist traps. There’s a proper chippy just down the road that stays open late, and if you need groceries or whatever, there’s a small shop that’ll do the trick. Parking was surprisingly easy to find on the street, though I’d probably move my car by morning if I were staying multiple nights. The walk into central Glasgow takes about twenty minutes if you don’t mind the exercise, or there’s bus connections that aren’t terrible. Honestly, for the price point, the location works better than you’d expect – it’s just not going to win any beauty contests. The check-in process was pretty no-frills, handled by someone who seemed like they probably lived nearby rather than hotel staff in the traditional sense. Would I recommend it? That really depends on what you’re after and how much you’re willing to spend. If you need basic shelter in Glasgow and want to save some money for actually experiencing the city, it’ll do the job. Just don’t expect anything fancy, and maybe bring your own coffee.
