Glasgow St George’s Room Overview
Look, I’ll be honest with you – Glasgow St George’s Room is one of those places that’s either going to be exactly what you’re looking for or completely wrong for your trip, and there’s really no middle ground here. When I first pulled up to St George’s Road, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into. This isn’t your typical hotel setup, and with that rock-bottom rating, I went in with pretty low expectations.
The thing is, calling it a “boutique hotel” feels like a bit of a stretch – it’s more like someone converted a room or two in what used to be a larger building into accommodation. You know what though, sometimes these quirky little places in Glasgow can surprise you, and the West End location is actually pretty solid. You’re walking distance to Kelvingrove Park, and the subway station isn’t too far if you need to get into the city center. I mean, St George’s Road itself is one of those typical Glasgow residential streets with the beautiful Victorian tenements, so at least you’re getting that authentic neighborhood feel rather than being stuck in some generic hotel district.
Now, here’s where I have to be real with you – that 1-star rating exists for a reason. During my stay, it became pretty clear that this place has some serious maintenance issues, and honestly, the whole experience felt more like crashing at someone’s spare room than staying at a proper hotel. The check-in process was… well, let’s call it informal. Don’t expect 24-hour reception or someone to help with your bags. The room itself was basic in a way that goes beyond charming and ventures into concerning territory – I’m talking about things like questionable plumbing, furniture that’s seen much better days, and cleanliness standards that would make your grandmother shake her head. The noise from the street and neighboring rooms was pretty noticeable too, especially if you’re trying to sleep early.
But here’s the thing – if you’re absolutely desperate for cheap accommodation in this part of Glasgow and you’re the type of person who doesn’t mind roughing it a bit, the location does have its perks. You’re close to some great pubs along Byres Road, and getting to places like the University of Glasgow or the Botanic Gardens is totally doable on foot. Just… maybe have a backup plan ready, and definitely manage your expectations before you book. I’ve stayed in budget places all over Scotland, and while I appreciate that not everyone needs luxury, there’s budget-friendly and then there’s cutting corners on basic hospitality standards. This one unfortunately falls into the latter category, though I suppose if you’re just looking for the cheapest possible bed in the West End and you’re not picky about amenities, it technically does the job.

Reviews of Glasgow St George’s Room
AVOID IF YOU CAN. Pathetic, Weird and Super expensive place for what you get – Gaurav from United Kingdom – August 23, 2025 (1/10)
Just the location was ok-ish
What could be improved: Pathetic stay unfortunately. The lady was helpful but after paying such a hefty price, I got a tiny room, extremely basic bedding, no heating, no hot water, continuously flushing toilet, unlockable room door, and overall a very weird place where we felt anxious whole night. We booked the timeslot to check-in through the booking portal but the lady asked for extra payment online for waiting. Due to some urgent matters, we had to pay and stay but won't recommend to anyone at all
