You know, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hampden Hüs on Bolton Drive, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The building itself has this understated charm that doesn’t scream “look at me” like some boutique places do, but there’s something quietly confident about it that caught my attention right away. It’s tucked away in the South side of Glasgow, and I mean that in the best possible way – you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to create something that feels genuinely unique without trying too hard. I’ve stayed at plenty of boutique hotels that throw around fancy star ratings, but honestly, Hampden Hüs doesn’t need any of that validation. The interiors have this Nordic-influenced aesthetic (you can tell from the name, right?) that somehow works perfectly with Glasgow’s character. The rooms are thoughtfully designed – and I actually mean thoughtfully, not just Instagram-pretty. You’ll find little touches that show someone really considered how people actually use hotel rooms, like proper lighting for reading and outlets where you’d actually want them.

The neighborhood itself is what sold me on coming back. You’re basically in Queen’s Park area, which means you get that residential Glasgow vibe without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. There’s a great little coffee spot just a few minutes’ walk away, and if you’re into football at all – well, you’re practically on Hampden Park’s doorstep, which is pretty special if you ask me. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the usual tourist recommendations. When I asked about getting to the city center, they gave me actual useful advice about the train connections rather than just pointing toward the nearest taxi rank.

Look, I won’t pretend it’s perfect – the building can get a bit creaky at night (character, they’d probably call it), and parking isn’t the most straightforward if you’re driving. But there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels like it has a real personality rather than just following some corporate playbook. The whole experience feels more like staying at a particularly stylish friend’s place than a traditional hotel, which I suppose is exactly what they’re going for. If you’re the type who wants to experience Glasgow more like a local and less like a tourist checking boxes, this place actually delivers on that promise.

  What could be improved: Kackerlackor i köket. Ingen återvinning för avfall. Lite svårt att få ut nycklarna (finns två nyckelskåp och det hade inte specificerats vilken skulle användas, och inte så lätt att öppna). Wifi ofta stängdes av och fick återställa modemet ofta för att kunna använda TV.
