Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa by IHG Overview

You know that feeling when you stumble upon a hotel that’s so perfectly placed you wonder how you never noticed it before? That’s exactly what happened to me with Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa by IHG. I’d walked through Glasgow‘s city center dozens of times, but somehow this elegant Georgian building on one of the city’s most beautiful squares had escaped my radar – which is honestly a bit embarrassing since it’s right there in the heart of everything.

The thing about staying in Blythswood Square is that you’re literally surrounded by some of Glasgow’s best bits without being stuck in the touristy chaos. I mean, you can walk to Buchanan Street for shopping in about three minutes, but step outside your hotel door and you’re in this gorgeous, tree-lined square that feels like a little pocket of calm. The building itself has that proper Scottish grandeur – you know, the kind of place where you half expect to see someone in a top hat walking by. Inside though, it’s got this modern Kimpton vibe that somehow works perfectly with all that Georgian architecture. The lobby has these jewel-toned velvet chairs and moody lighting that makes you want to settle in with a whisky (which, let’s be honest, you absolutely should do).

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep that intimate boutique feeling despite being part of a bigger hotel group. The rooms are genuinely stylish – not just Instagram-pretty, but actually comfortable to live in. Mine had these huge windows overlooking the square, and I spent way too much time just watching Glasgow wake up in the morning. The spa downstairs is proper lovely too, though I’d definitely book treatments in advance because it gets busy, especially on weekends when locals pop in for a bit of pampering. Actually, that’s something I really liked about the place – it doesn’t feel like a tourist bubble. You’ll see Glasgow business types having meetings in the bar, couples from the West End coming for dinner, that sort of thing. The restaurant‘s pretty solid too – they do this Scottish-meets-modern thing that could easily be terrible but actually works really well. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare around there (welcome to city center Glasgow), but the valet service is worth every penny if you’re driving. One small thing – the elevators are a bit slow, which is fine until you’re running late, but honestly, that’s about the only complaint I can muster about the place.

The concierge service in Glasgow can arrange exclusive whisky distillery tours, secure private Celtic FC stadium visits, and organize trips to nearby Loch Lomond and the Scottish Highlands.
