Lodge at Loch Lomond Overview

Honestly, when I first pulled up to the Lodge at Loch Lomond, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect – the approach through Rowardennan is pretty unassuming, just a winding road that suddenly opens up to this absolutely stunning lochside setting. You know what struck me immediately? The complete quiet. I mean, coming from Glasgow (which is only about an hour’s drive, though it feels like a different world), the contrast is remarkable. The lodge sits right on the water’s edge, and you can actually hear the gentle lapping of the loch against the shore from most of the rooms – it’s one of those sounds that becomes oddly addictive after a day or two.

The rooms themselves are what I’d call “highland comfortable” – they’ve got that cozy Scottish lodge feel without being overly themed or kitschy. The four-star rating feels about right; it’s not luxury in a spa-resort sense, but everything works well and the beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses, so that matters). What really sold me was stepping out onto the little balcony in the morning with coffee and watching the mist lift off Loch Lomond. The view changes constantly throughout the day – sometimes the water’s like glass, other times you’ll see small boats heading out for fishing or the occasional kayaker paddling along the shoreline. The staff mentioned that Ben Lomond hikers often stay here, which makes sense since the trailhead is literally a short walk away, and you’ll definitely notice the hiking boots drying outside rooms during good weather weekends.

I’ll be honest – the dining situation is fairly straightforward, nothing fancy, but they do a proper Scottish breakfast that’ll fuel you for whatever outdoor activities you’re planning. The real charm here is the location and that sense of being tucked away from everything. Parking is easy (always a relief), and check-in was refreshingly relaxed – none of that corporate hotel efficiency, more like staying with friends who happen to run a really nice lodge. The 7.9 rating seems fair; it’s not perfect (the Wi-Fi can be spotty, and some of the room furnishings show their age), but those minor issues fade pretty quickly when you’re sitting by the loch with a drink watching the sun set behind the hills. If you’re looking for that authentic Scottish Highlands experience without having to rough it completely, this place hits the sweet spot. Just don’t expect city-level nightlife – the entertainment here is the landscape, the walking trails, and the kind of peaceful evening that makes you realize how much noise you normally live with.

  • Lovely lodge in a wonderful location – Claire from United Kingdom – July 10, 2024 (9/10)

The location of the lodge is excellent, and of course Loch Lomond is wonderful. The lodge was very spacious, comfortable and the owner was helpful with information and easy to contact. We hiked up Ben Lomond mountain but during another walk we discovered the Ardess History Trail, a pleasant surprise and interesting.

  • Wonderful – Stephen from Netherlands – August 23, 2023 (9/10)

Very clean!! Everything you need can be found in the lodge, and more. Perfect location, superb views, bar and pub at a walking distance.
    Would highly recommend!

What could be improved: Did not find any mayor flaws! A few extra towels would have been handy, but since there is a washing machine and dryer there, so really no worries!

  • stunning location. very peaceful and relaxing – Elizabeth from United Kingdom – October 21, 2022 (8/10)

loved the location of the lodge.

What could be improved: Did not like the main double bed. every time we turned it would squeak and wake one of us up. I ended up sleeping on the couch. the TV package was poor for winter months.

Lovely lodge, has everything you need and enclosed decking areas, which was fab for our dog. Beautiful location and lots of walks in the local area and Loch seconds away. . Good pub very close and dog friendly. We had a great time.

  • Exceptional – Graham from United Kingdom – November 27, 2022 (10/10)

The location was good roads a bit rough but to be expected worth it for the lovely views. The cabin was warm and very comfortable. Bedrooms were lovely and beds comfortable. Living area and kitchen had everything that was needed. Bathrooms lovely and a room at the back with washing machine tumble dryer and come in that way with muddy boots and dog.
    Overall stay was brilliant.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Regretful never again – Maureen from United Kingdom – April 8, 2024 (1/10)

The owner requires all renters to clean the whole lodge before leaving. So we arrived to not every clean lodge. As you have to be out by 10am on day of leaving renters will need to be up by 6 to clean before leaving.
The owners friends live next door at no 2 and constantly watch your ever move, even caught him on rear decking at 1030 at night moving chairs when we had kids were in bed.
The barbecue had bird feathers in it so please avoid. We were warned about the scary cleaning schedule by the previous reviewer but was assured by Kirsty it was nothing until we arrived. When I brought it up to her she called me vile and disgusting. I was only telling her our experience.

    What could be improved: Dirty
    Cleaning schedule to be done
Abusive language from Kirsty the owner

  • Very enjoyable and I would recommend it – Anonymous from United Kingdom – August 1, 2023 (10/10)

It was well kitted out and spacious and in a good location

What could be improved: There was nothing I didn’t like
