Malmaison Glasgow Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Malmaison Glasgow on West George Street, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical chain hotel. The building itself has this gorgeous Victorian facade that somehow manages to feel both historic and edgy at the same time — honestly, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a four-star boutique property in Glasgow. The lobby strikes this perfect balance between dramatic and welcoming, with dark wood and rich fabrics that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a stylish private club rather than a hotel.
Location & Getting Around
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally in the thick of everything without feeling overwhelmed by tourist crowds. West George Street puts you right in Glasgow City Centre, which means you can walk to Buchanan Street for shopping, hit up the Merchant City for dinner, or catch a show at the Theatre Royal — all within about ten minutes. I mean, couples absolutely love this location (they rate it 8.6 out of 10), and after staying here, I totally get why. The train station’s close enough that you don’t need to stress about parking if you’re coming from outside the city.
The Room Experience
Here’s where Malmaison really shines — the beds are genuinely fantastic. I’m usually pretty skeptical when hotels boast about their bedding, but this place actually delivers on the comfort front. The room design leans into that signature Malmaison aesthetic with bold colors and quirky touches that somehow work perfectly together. The bathrooms are well-appointed too, with those little details that make you feel properly looked after rather than just accommodated. Each space reflects the hotel’s commitment to creating distinctive, memorable accommodations.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is honestly impressive — they’ve got everything from a proper Full English to vegan and gluten-free options, which is refreshing when you’re traveling with different dietary needs. The restaurant has this moody, intimate vibe that works whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a proper dinner. What I particularly appreciate is that they don’t try to be everything to everyone — instead, they do what they do really well. The culinary team takes pride in sourcing quality ingredients and delivering exceptional service.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something about Malmaison that just works, especially if you’re looking for character over cookie-cutter perfection. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay memorable, and the whole place has this energy that feels distinctly Glasgow — creative, unpretentious, but with real style. Whether you’re here for business or exploring the city with someone special, this hotel manages to feel both sophisticated and approachable. It’s the kind of place where you actually look forward to coming back at the end of the day, which honestly isn’t something I can say about most hotels.

Great location, clean hotel. Got upgraded to a club room on arrival. The old girl is looking a bit worn but it was exceptionally clean and the staff were great!

Gorgeous boutique-feel hotel in quieter area near the heart of the city. Staff were perfect. Beds very comfortable. The bar had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and wasn't busy or loud (during a trip Jan/Feb) and served superb cocktails. House toiletries lovely. Everything looked well maintained. We could opt out of daily towel-refresh to be a little more eco-friendly (and receive a benefit – I'll leave that one to be a nice surprise for you). Tea making facilities in room.
Prices in Jan/Feb weren't hugely different to other city hotels – so booking Malmaison was an easy choice.
Top tip: shop around online for parking about 10min walk South near motorway.Derek from United Kingdom (9/10)
