Malmaison Glasgow Overview

I’ll be honest – Malmaison Glasgow isn’t what you’d expect from a typical hotel, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The moment you walk into the lobby, you know you’re somewhere different. It’s got this whole boutique vibe going on, with dark wood, rich fabrics, and mood lighting that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into some upscale members’ club. The staff actually seem to enjoy being there, which is refreshing, and check-in was smooth without being overly formal or stuffy.

What I really appreciated about this place is how it manages to feel both sophisticated and comfortable at the same time. The rooms have character – proper thick curtains, quality linens, and bathrooms that don’t feel like afterthoughts. You know what struck me? The attention to small details, like decent coffee in the room (not that instant stuff) and lighting that you can actually read by. The beds are genuinely comfortable too, which honestly can be hit or miss even at four-star places. I mean, you’re paying for a good night’s sleep, right?

The location puts you right in the heart of Glasgow without the chaos of being directly on the main tourist drag. You can walk to pretty much everything – the shopping areas, restaurants, galleries – but when you come back at night, it’s not like you’re dealing with crowds of drunk tourists stumbling around outside your window. The neighborhood has that nice urban energy during the day but settles down in the evenings. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving (honestly, most city center hotels have this issue), but there are options nearby if you’re willing to walk a couple blocks. The restaurant downstairs is actually worth eating at, which isn’t something you can say about most hotel restaurants – they do a solid job with both the food and the atmosphere, though it can get pretty busy on weekends. With a 7.9 rating, you’re getting reliable quality without the pretentiousness that sometimes comes with boutique properties, and the staff seem to understand that business travelers and leisure guests have different needs.

  • Anne from United Kingdom (8/10)

Great location, clean hotel. Got upgraded to a club room on arrival. The old girl is looking a bit worn but it was exceptionally clean and the staff were great!

  • Lynn from United Kingdom (9/10)

Gorgeous boutique-feel hotel in quieter area near the heart of the city. Staff were perfect. Beds very comfortable. The bar had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and wasn't busy or loud (during a trip Jan/Feb) and served superb cocktails. House toiletries lovely. Everything looked well maintained. We could opt out of daily towel-refresh to be a little more eco-friendly (and receive a benefit – I'll leave that one to be a nice surprise for you). Tea making facilities in room.
Prices in Jan/Feb weren't hugely different to other city hotels – so booking Malmaison was an easy choice.
Top tip: shop around online for parking about 10min walk South near motorway.
