Merchant City Apartment Overview
I stumbled across Merchant City Apartment during a weekend trip to Scotland, and honestly, the location alone sold me on this place. You’re right on Ingram Street, which puts you smack in the middle of one of Glasgow‘s most vibrant neighborhoods – I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and into some of the city’s best bars and restaurants. The building itself has that classic Victorian charm you’d expect in this part of town, though don’t expect anything too fancy given it’s a 3-star spot.
What I really appreciated was how the apartment felt like staying in someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room. The space is surprisingly roomy for central Glasgow, and you get a proper kitchen setup which honestly saved me a fortune on breakfast costs. The street can get a bit lively on weekend nights – you know how the Merchant City gets with all the nightlife – but I found it more atmospheric than annoying. Plus, having actual windows that open was a blessing (you’d be surprised how many city center places seal you in). The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward, none of that awkward hovering around a reception desk business since it’s all handled digitally.
Here’s the thing though – while the 7.8 rating is pretty solid, you can tell this isn’t a place that’s trying to be something it’s not. The furnishings are comfortable but clearly practical, and there are those little quirks you get with older Glasgow buildings (the shower pressure varies depending on time of day, that sort of thing). But that’s part of the charm, really. You’re a two-minute walk from the Gallery of Modern Art, practically next door to some fantastic independent shops, and the whole area has this creative energy that makes you want to just wander around with no particular destination. I spent hours just exploring the Victorian architecture and stumbling into random galleries and coffee shops. For the price point and location, it’s actually quite brilliant – especially if you’re the type who’d rather spend money on experiencing the city than on thread counts and marble bathrooms.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Glasgow at least two months ahead for major events like music festivals and Highland games, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near popular cultural sites.

Reviews of Merchant City Apartment
Fantastic apartment – Kolaki from Greece – April 21, 2025 (9/10)
The apartment was great, and as you see on the pictures. Very clean and very well equipped it has everything you need. Great for a family, spacious and the view from the windows fantastic.
The location was great, just 10 mins walk from Buchanan street, with parking nearby if you have a car, with a Sainsbury’s and coffee shop just across the road.
The only downside I would mention is the noise that you can hear from the road, but even this didn’t ruin our experience.
Overall we had a fantastic long weekend with our kids and if we revisited Glasgow we will definitely look for the same apartment if it is available. An excellent few days in the city. – Grant from United Kingdom – July 7, 2025 (8/10)
Location, Location, Location & a strong shower👍.
What could be improved: The decor – looking a bit tired, which wouldn’t take much to bring it back up to scratch.Great location heart of Glasgow – Stephen from United Kingdom – March 8, 2025 (8/10)
Location and front room
What could be improved: Getting a bit worn and kitchen small and not greatExcellent location, lovely apartment, would definitely stay here again – Marie from United Kingdom – March 23, 2025 (10/10)
Excellent location in the city centre
What could be improved: Couldn’t get the cooker top to workBrilliant – Bishop from United Kingdom – February 16, 2025 (10/10)
Clean, spacious and great location
It was excellent! – Ibironke from United Kingdom – November 12, 2024 (10/10)
I love the location. It's close to everything, which was very helpful since it was my first time in Glasgow. I love that it has large windows so I could enjoy the view even while lying on the bed. The apartment was very clean, and well furnished. Everything i needed was in the kitchen. All the people I interacted with were very polite.
What could be improved: Only one set of keys, it would have been better if we had 2 sets.Comfortable and good location but noisy – Tom from United Kingdom – June 6, 2025 (5/10)
The apartment has a nice spacious living room and all the facilities are there, the furniture is comfortable enough
What could be improved: The lack of double glazing or at least a secondary glazing means the traffic noise is very loud all night long. Also the windows could do with some blinds or nets as they face onto the main road so there is literally zero privacy without fully closing all the curtainsLoved it. Would book again. And recommend highly beautiful flat / stunning location – Donald from United Kingdom – October 18, 2024 (10/10)
It’s in a one of Glasgows most beautiful old buildings. It’s very central and has incredible views from enormous windows. It’s clean and modern inside with nice interior design. Very spacious. Comfortable beds nice kitchen / powerful shower but the view is the most special thing in many ways
What could be improved: Nothing really just some nit picky things ….
It looks clean and organised but open a cupboard and disused things appear – just bin them – it just takes the edge off the sleekness. It looks great but it’s getting bit tired and slightly shabby if you look at the corners etc ( but who does !! ) the multiple old locks on the door do t give a great first impression ( I’m from Glasgow – I know what that can mean 😜🤣)
The cooker – very modern – very sleek. But I couldn’t figure out how it worked lol. Was like the helm of the Enterprise 🤣. But that’s me being a Luddite ( and I did discover instruction manuals ) and being even more stupid I couldn’t find the cutlery lol 😂- and there’s lots of glasses cups etc but nope couldn’t find it – but you know it MUST be there – so I’d search the hall cupboard and wardrobes lol. I did find it – it’s kinda genius – hiding in plain sight – and obviously if it was an real issue I’d have phoned and they’d tell me so it was just funny
Last thing is my advice to all apartment owners. If you do the coffee / tea thing – which is lovely ! Make sure you have the sugar and milk cos nothing worse than going ooooh an nespresso but no sugar or milk – it’s an easy win to put them in as when you arrive you want a cuppa and you get excited cos there is a coffee machine but then booted cos no extras
I would say don’t have any or have it all cos the bit in the middle is disappointment
Nit picking ! Because there’s nothing wrong with the flat – it’s very nice indeed 👍👍Pleasant – Albadi from Oman – August 29, 2025 (6/10)
The location is great, it gives a great view which I totally loved it.
Living room is lovely and quite big for a group stay.
Apartment is clean and has all required facilities.
What could be improved: There's no lift in the building, which makes it quite difficult to take pags upstairs.
Only one bathroom ( I missed to see this when I booked the apartment and that's my mistake).
Bedrooms are small and beddings are not that clean.very central, too expensive for this kind of flat! maximum £500 for week!!! – Ganna from Czech Republic – November 15, 2022 (4/10)
location
What could be improved: cold! very small bedrooms for this price tag! overpriced, no dishwasher, walk-through living room!
