Mercure Glasgow City Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mercure Glasgow City Hotel, you’re immediately struck by how it manages to feel both polished and welcoming without trying too hard. The lobby has that crisp, modern vibe you’d expect from a three-star property, but there’s something genuinely warm about the staff greeting you — they actually seem to know the city well when you ask for directions. Located right on Ingram Street in the heart of Glasgow’s city center, you’re literally steps away from everything that matters, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to make the most of a short trip.
Location & Neighborhood
This spot is absolutely brilliant for exploring Glasgow — I mean, you can walk to Buchanan Street’s shopping in about three minutes, and the Merchant City area with its galleries and restaurants is right on your doorstep. What I really appreciate is how you’re close enough to George Square to pop over for photos, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise. The train station is maybe a ten-minute walk, which is perfect when you’re hauling luggage, and there are plenty of pubs and cafes nearby where locals actually hang out (not just tourist traps).
The Rooms
The rooms are exactly what you’d hope for — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without any unnecessary frills. I particularly liked how they’ve managed to fit everything you need into spaces that aren’t huge but never feel cramped. The beds are genuinely comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss hotel beds can be), and the bathrooms are modern with decent water pressure. There’s good WiFi throughout, which actually works reliably, and the windows let in plenty of natural light during the day.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel restaurant serves solid food that won’t blow your mind but definitely hits the spot, especially if you’re tired from walking around the city all day. Breakfast is well-executed with both continental and cooked options — nothing fancy, but everything’s fresh and there’s enough variety to keep you happy. What I found particularly useful was the 24-hour front desk; Glasgow can be a late-night city, and it’s reassuring to know someone’s always around if you need recommendations or help with anything.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it comes down to location and reliability — this place delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Couples seem to particularly enjoy staying here (and I can see why), since you can easily walk to romantic dinner spots in Merchant City or catch a show at one of the nearby theaters. The staff genuinely knows Glasgow well, so they’ll point you toward the good curry houses on Sauchiehall Street or tell you which pubs have live music on weekends. It’s the kind of hotel where you spend your time exploring the city rather than hanging around the property, which is exactly what you want in a place like Glasgow.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Glasgow at least two months ahead for major events like music festivals and Highland games, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near popular cultural sites.

The staff were good, especially Joy. In my room there was a welcome card which was personally written by the staff. A lovely idea to receives after an 8 hour journey. There was a real bath too. The check out time of 11am was perfect.
