Modern and refurbished Flat in Merchant City Overview
When I first stumbled across the Modern and refurbished Flat in Merchant City, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. But you know what? Sometimes the places without flashy branding turn out to be exactly what you didn’t know you were looking for. This little gem sits right in the heart of Glasgow‘s most vibrant quarter, and I mean properly in the thick of it all.
The Merchant City has this incredible energy that’s hard to describe – it’s where Glasgow’s creative types hang out, where you’ll find galleries tucked between vintage shops and some of the best coffee in Scotland. The flat itself feels like someone actually put thought into making it a place you’d want to spend time, not just crash for the night. The refurbishment they’ve done strikes that sweet spot between modern comfort and character (trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty of soulless “modern” places that missed this mark entirely). You can tell someone cared about the details – the lighting actually works for reading, the shower has proper pressure, and there’s enough space to properly unpack if you’re staying more than a night or two.
What really sold me on this place was stepping out the front door. You’re literally a two-minute walk from some of Glasgow’s best independent restaurants – I’m talking about the kind of spots where locals actually eat, not tourist traps. The Italian Centre is practically next door, and if you wander down towards the Trongate, you’ll find yourself in this amazing mix of old Glasgow architecture and contemporary art spaces. Actually, one morning I grabbed coffee from a place around the corner and just sat people-watching – the neighborhood has this genuine creative buzz that you don’t find everywhere. Sure, it can get a bit lively on weekend evenings (this is Glasgow, after all), but honestly, that’s part of the charm. The flat’s windows are decent enough that you won’t be kept awake unless you’re an incredibly light sleeper. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – the streets around here are narrow and busy – but there are options within walking distance if you don’t mind paying city center rates. What I really appreciated was how easy it made exploring the rest of Glasgow too. You’re close enough to walk to George Square and the main shopping areas, but far enough from the touristy bits that you feel like you’re experiencing the real city. The whole Merchant City area has this walkable scale that makes you want to just wander and discover things, which honestly is the best way to experience Glasgow anyway.
Hotels in Glasgow offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this cultural gem, with easy access to historic districts, charming squares, and renowned whisky bars.

Reviews of Modern and refurbished Flat in Merchant City
For shorts stays high recommended! – Cristina from United Kingdom – November 15, 2023 (8/10)
Good central area, same like in pictures , very clean with all facilities included!
What could be improved: A bit coldly apartment, and quite difficult the way from down to the apartment, are 4 doors (2 with codes for each door) and 2 door with no code, old building and the floors from the hall way and from the apartment makes bad noise but was ok , we’ve get used with that noise!Centra location with access to shops, nightclubs and public transit. Read carefully descriptions. – Leanne from Canada – October 8, 2023 (7/10)
While location was excellent- about 10 minutes walk to George Square, steps from three grocery stores: Mark&Spencer, Spar,Sainsbury’s. Two nightclubs, a Casino and big bowling alley all within the block of residence.
Communication was excellent and responsive to questions and concerns quickly.
Property was very clean and mattress in bedroom newer and comfortable.
Instructions and photos of information on the property was very helpful!
Decorating is beautiful in main living room.
What could be improved: Noise in the evening was a lot when attendance of night clubs began to leave. Very loud revelling could be heard inside apartment. Hob needs replacement:one ceramic coil on cooktop completely broken, all numbers rubbed off so you couldn’t tell which was high or low and never could get heat to anything else than a low warm. Oven works, but I needed to guess at temperature as all numbers rubbed off. Remote from tv was missing as was iron. Iron was provided day 2 of 3. Someone dropped it off inside apartment while we weren’t there -when I didn’t give permission to enter.
Sofas are collapsible into a futon type bed, not super comfortable for an adult. Only a small child likely would be appropriate for.Good – Evelyn from United Kingdom – August 11, 2023 (7/10)
it spacious
What could be improved: it need a proper radiator and bedroom need TVA little more instructions early about the key would have made it very good. – Michael from United States – November 4, 2024 (8/10)
kitchen
What could be improved: the key questGood central location apartment – Narinder from United Kingdom – June 14, 2024 (8/10)
A good clean apartment and central location, so good for travelling around. Welll equipped.
What could be improved: Corridors to the apartment are very dull and unwelcoming…. 2 further keys code to gain access just in corridors is a bit of a pain.
No hooks in bathroom
Bit of a distance to collect keysNot quite as expected but would consider again. – Colin from United Kingdom – March 11, 2024 (6/10)
The location was generally good and the main bedroom and bathroom shower was good.
What could be improved: The bathroom door needs a lock and it would be useful to have hooks on doors for drying towels, hanging clothes, etc. It was a bit of a job finding the lock box as it is not located that near to the property. It would also be useful to have information regarding where to find bedding, etc. for the sofa beds.Good – Daniel from United Kingdom – April 25, 2024 (7/10)
Decent location second time staying here quiet part of the building
What could be improved: Wasn’t as clean, no coffee table in the living room so didn’t have anywhere to sit our cups unless we were at the dining tableGreat place!! – Rafal from United Kingdom – April 8, 2025 (9/10)
Lovely, spacious flat with all necessary equipment and very close to City Centre.
Very good communication with the host
What could be improved: It would be very handy to have some pegs for towels in bathroom .Wonderful – Crilly from Ireland – May 14, 2024 (9/10)
