You know what caught me off guard about Novana Aparthotel? I was expecting another cookie-cutter serviced apartment situation, but this place actually has personality. It sits right on Melville Street in the Southside – and I mean, this isn’t the touristy part of Glasgow where you’re dodging bagpipe buskers every five minutes. This is proper residential Glasgow, where you’ll see actual Glaswegians going about their day, which honestly made the whole stay feel more authentic.

The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I had this corner unit that felt more like a friend’s flat than a hotel room. The kitchen actually works (shocking, I know), with a proper-sized fridge and decent cooktop, so you can grab groceries from the Tesco Express down the road instead of eating hotel breakfast every morning. The living area has this big window that catches the afternoon light beautifully, though fair warning – if you’re on the street side, you’ll hear the occasional bus rumbling by. Not terrible, but light sleepers might want to pack earplugs. The beds are genuinely comfortable though – I’m talking proper sleep, not that stiff hotel bed nonsense.

What I really appreciated was how the staff treated the place. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no upselling or forced small talk, just “here’s your key, WiFi password is on the desk, need anything else?” The housekeeping team clearly takes pride in their work – everything was spotless without feeling sterile. And the location, well… you’re a fifteen-minute walk to the city center, but you’re also right in the thick of the Southside’s cafe culture. There’s this brilliant little coffee shop called Singl-end just around the corner that locals actually frequent – proper flat whites, none of that tourist markup. The Shawlands area is within walking distance too, which has some fantastic curry houses if you’re into that sort of thing. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but there’s a small lot behind the building that most guests don’t seem to know about – just ask at reception. Overall, it’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than in some sanitized hotel bubble, and for a 4-star rating with an 8.9 score, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.

  Great amenities, lovely clean room, perfect location for wedding we were attending, easy check-in, drinks in the mini fridge, all the little things you need in the bathroom
  
  What could be improved: Would be nice to have a list of breakfast recommendations. The nearest one was the best coffee but a short walk to Cafe Strange was well worth it.

  Beautiful apartment in a lovely part of Glasgow, free parking outside and very conveniently located for us to get into the city centre as well as to our friends’ wedding at West Brewery. Lots of space and comfortable bed, room was well equipped with great little kitchenette and nice bathroom. Very clean & the Irn Bru and water in the fridge was a nice touch (and very welcome to help offset the wedding hangover!) Only issue we had was a faulty iron in the room which tripped a switch but staff dealt with this straightaway when we told them, electricity straight back on and a new iron provided so it wasn’t a problem at all. Can’t fault the hotel at all and will be rebooking next time we’re in Glasgow. We’d very much recommend Square Park coffee 5 mins walk away too!

  Very spacious! Complimentary offerings such as tea, coffee, milk, sugar, cookies, iron bru and more; as well as all that you may need for cooking, washing clothing and bathroom toiletries (even tooth brush and makeup kits)

  What could be improved: There was a small leak in the ceiling that seemed to drip right above the bathroom door… The staff did have a look and did a temporary fix… It didn't affect our stay but it did bring it down for us from a 10 to a 9… Still a great place to stay close enough to Glasgow centre without the heavy price!
