Open space studio in Shawlands Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Open space studio in Shawlands, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The whole “open space studio” thing made me think it might be one of those super minimalist places that’s all white walls and no personality. Boy, was I wrong about that assumption.
This little gem sits right on Lethington Avenue, and you know what? The location is actually pretty brilliant if you want to experience Glasgow like someone who lives here rather than just passing through. Shawlands has this wonderful village-y feel that somehow exists within the city – there are proper local pubs where people know each other’s names, independent coffee shops that haven’t been swallowed up by chains yet, and that authentic Scottish neighborhood vibe you can’t fake. I mean, you’re still close enough to the city center that you won’t feel cut off, but far enough out that you’ll pay reasonable prices for a decent pint and actually hear yourself think.
The studio itself is… well, it’s definitely unique, which explains why they don’t bother with the whole star rating system (honestly, how would you even categorize a place like this?). It’s got that converted space feel – high ceilings, interesting angles, the kind of character that comes from someone actually thinking about how to use the space rather than just cramming in as many beds as possible. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me because it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea – some people want their hotels to feel like hotels, you know? But if you’re the type who gets excited about staying somewhere with actual personality, somewhere that feels more like crashing at a creative friend’s place than checking into a corporate box, then you’ll probably love it here. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night (thank god), and I actually slept better here than I have in some supposedly fancier places in the city center where you’re dealing with drunk football fans singing at 2 AM. Plus, parking around here isn’t the nightmare it can be in other parts of Glasgow – there’s street parking that doesn’t require a second mortgage, and the locals seem pretty chill about visitors. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself chatting with the person who runs the corner shop or getting restaurant recommendations from someone walking their dog, which honestly beats any concierge service I’ve ever used.

Very Good – Whitworth from United Kingdom – June 18, 2025 (8/10)
Comfortable apartment, comfortable bed and everything needed for a short break. Quiet and super convenient location, close to shops, entertainment, parks and public transport…. Hosts very responsive and helpful. Hope to be back
Very Good – Diana from United Kingdom – April 21, 2025 (8/10)
Great location. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Great communication. Good value for money. Nice common areas – especially the garden.
What could be improved: Wifi would have been great.Comfortable quiet apartment – Ken from United Kingdom – April 1, 2025 (8/10)
Very comfortable bed, and the apartment was lovely and quiet. The power shower, like many, was a bit underwhelming. It was in a good location for the venue we attended (The Glad Cafe; 7 minutes easy walk)
Great location, responsive host – Chris from United Kingdom – December 29, 2024 (8/10)
Location, accommodation relatively basis but has everything needed. Transport links and shops are fully available.
What could be improved: Parking can be very tight, narrow lanes. A cafetière would be great to have!Would happily stay there again. – Hugh from United Kingdom – October 3, 2024 (9/10)
It was quiet, comfy and clean, and it had some personality. For better than travel lodge prices, we found somewhere great to stay with a very comfy bed. I would book it again.
What could be improved: The host kindly provided a choice of hot drinks. However, whilst you'd think unlabelled teabags in a jar would be black tea, they were red berry fruit tea!Comfortable, quiet accommodation with easy access to the centre – Coline from France – September 18, 2024 (7/10)
Maria was very responsive, with clear instructions on arrival, and the little snacks available at the bar are always pleasant! The accommodation was very comfortable, clean and well equipped (a little bonus for having a hairdryer!). The only things missing were a dustbin in the bathroom and a small corner to put your toiletries, and the blinds are not completely blackout. The accommodation is a little bit far from the centre, but close to several bus stops, so getting around the centre is easy. Thanks again for the stay 🙂
Great little crash pad. – David from United Kingdom – August 10, 2024 (7/10)
Comfy bed, kitchen space.
What could be improved: It needs a night light, or a means of turning the light off from the bed. The bed area was way too perfumed, it was overpowering.Shawlands Studio – Anne from United Kingdom – August 8, 2024 (8/10)
A very quiet, clean, well equipped, spacious studio flat with parking, close to Queen's Park.
What could be improved: At 5'3" reaching some of the cupboards for items was a challenge! Fortunately, there was a wooden chair to clamber up on. The 3rd floor location was a bit of a struggle with luggage.Lovely place to stay, read all the information for no surprises. – Pamba from United Kingdom – June 10, 2024 (8/10)
There were lots of small touches that made the studio lovely.
It was very clean.
The location is great for me – really near Shawlands Cross.
What could be improved: I woke up very early because it wasn't possible to make the studio dark. Only blinds, no curtains.
There's not a socket near the bed.Very Good – Aimée from United Kingdom – May 10, 2024 (8/10)
Cute and comfy and location was perfect for our needs.
