I particularly loved the little touches – good lighting for reading, proper hangers in the closet, and bathroom amenities that don’t smell like industrial cleaning products.

The service here is where piccolo Hotel really shines, though. It’s the kind of place where they’ll remember you prefer your coffee extra strong, or they’ll quietly upgrade your room if something better opens up, without making a big show of it. During my stay, there was this one evening when I was feeling pretty rough with a cold, and the front desk staff – without me even asking – sent up some proper tea and honey. Small gesture, but it’s those moments that stick with you long after checkout. The 9.2 rating this place has earned makes complete sense once you experience how they operate. Sure, it’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on doing the fundamentals really, really well rather than trying to wow you with gimmicky amenities you’ll never use.
