The building itself has that gorgeous Victorian sandstone thing going on that Glasgow does so well, and you can tell they’ve put real thought into keeping the character while making it actually livable for modern travelers.

I mean, Merchant City is absolutely where you want to be if you’re doing Glasgow properly – you’re literally surrounded by some of the city’s best bars, galleries, and restaurants, but Rab Ha’s manages to feel like a quiet retreat from all that energy. The rooms aren’t huge (this is a historic building, after all), but they’re done up with this cozy, slightly quirky style that feels authentically Scottish without going overboard on the tartans and bagpipe nonsense. What I really appreciated was how genuinely quiet it stays at night, considering you’re right in the thick of things. The staff actually know the area – like, really know it – so when they recommend that little Italian place around the corner or tell you the best time to hit the Necropolis for photos, they’re not just reading from some generic script.

The whole experience feels refreshingly real, you know? Like when I checked in, the guy behind the desk was chatting with locals who’d popped in for a drink (there’s a proper pub downstairs that serves decent food), and it struck me that this isn’t just a place tourists crash – it’s woven into the neighborhood. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense because while it’s not trying to be some fancy boutique hotel with a million amenities, it absolutely nails what it is trying to be. You’re a two-minute walk from Queen Street station if you need to get somewhere quickly, the Gallery of Modern Art is practically next door, and you can stumble back from the best curry houses in the city without needing a taxi. Plus – and this matters if you’re driving – there are actual parking options nearby that won’t bankrupt you, which is honestly rare for central Glasgow. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because everything just works, and you realize you’ve accidentally found yourself a perfect little base for exploring one of Scotland’s most underrated cities.

  Friendly staff. Bar below it. Great location. Lot to do and see around. Nearby train station. Bottle of water and mints, coffee, tea in the room are a nice detail. “Complimentary” breakfast with many options.

  Nearly everything was just right. Lovely staff, Warm welcome and extremely comfy bed.
  Delicious breakfast, but never realised that breakfast included in price was for continental only. The extra £15 for a cooked breakfast was worth it though, as it was delicious!

  What could be improved: Room needs a little bit of attention. Shower a bit grubby and worn items. Bathroom unit was very worn and peeling and wardrobe was worn. But not a huge problem, just let the place down a little.

  The staff were courteous, friendly and attentive; they took an interest in why I was staying with them. They did all that without being intrusive, but definitely made me feel welcome and a valued guest. The location could hardly be more central – busy and vibrant at street level, in the bar and eating areas. However, the room itself was pleasantly quiet.
