Riverview House Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Riverview House on Riverview Gardens, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. It’s tucked away in Kinning Park, which isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, but that’s actually part of its charm. The building itself has this understated elegance that you don’t see much anymore – no flashy signs or over-the-top entrance, just a beautifully restored townhouse that feels like someone’s incredibly stylish home rather than a commercial hotel.
What really struck me was how the owners have managed to create something genuinely unique here in Glasgow. You know how boutique hotels can sometimes try too hard to be quirky? This place doesn’t fall into that trap. The interiors have this perfect balance of contemporary comfort and period character – I mean, the original cornicing and high ceilings are stunning, but they’ve paired them with modern furnishings that actually make sense. The rooms feel spacious (which is saying something for a Victorian conversion), and honestly, the attention to detail is impressive. I’m talking about things like proper blackout curtains, decent water pressure, and – this might sound silly – but hooks and surfaces where you actually want to put your stuff.
The location took me a minute to appreciate, but once I got my bearings, I realized how clever it is. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the city center, but you’re staying in this quiet residential area where you can actually sleep at night. The riverside walks along the Clyde are right there if you fancy a morning jog or evening stroll, and getting to places like the West End or Merchant City is surprisingly easy. Plus – and this is huge if you’re driving – parking isn’t the nightmare it is in the city center. The neighborhood has that authentic Glasgow feel without being touristy, which I really appreciated. There’s a proper local pub around the corner, and you’ll see actual residents going about their daily lives rather than just other visitors wandering around with cameras. The whole experience feels more connected to the real city, if that makes sense. Sure, it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of a big chain hotel, but that’s exactly why it works so well.

Reviews of Riverview House
Disappointing – Heather from United Kingdom – May 1, 2025 (4/10)
The location was good. The beds were comfortable.
What could be improved: We had no idea which keysafe to use, no idea on the number of the flat, luckily the cleaners husband was there to advise us. The first impressions were good until I looked further. The wardrobe door was smashed and off the rails, the ensuite shower light was loose, blinds in the bedrooms were dirty and old. Lamps with broken lightbulbs. It said no parking available so we rented a car space. There are parking permits in the flat. That was annoying. The overall general impression was tired. The beds and sofas were nice and comfortable, and the linens were clean. Not great – Alick from United Kingdom – April 20, 2025 (3/10)
Location
What could be improved: unfortunately the flat was not in good condition on arrival. We also did not even receive the flat number prior to arriving and had to bother the neighbours. The bedroom mirrors were broken, the windows were dirty, the ensuite shower was dirty and the light was defective, the lino in the kitchen was lifting. The stove was dirty. The fan in the main bathroom was filthy as was the floor. The sliding doors were in poor condition. There weren't bulbs in all the lamps. There was no heating and so we were cold the entire stay. The router for the WiFi was on the floor, the blind in the twin room was broken. This list is not exhaustive and we will be contacting Booking.com for a refund.Overpriced for the condition of the property – Ross from United Kingdom – August 9, 2025 (3/10)
The location by the river was nice
What could be improved: Both rooms had broken glass wardrobe doors that were hanging off the rails. One glass door even had the edge of the glass uncovered. I had asked them to be removed or repaired on the first day that we arrived, as this caused a danger to my two young kids. However, this seemed to be ignored by the landlord.
There was no hot water in the taps for the first two days. We had to use the shower and kettle to fill up the bath to bathe our children.
The main bedroom radiator was stuck on full heat despite the heating not being turned on. The radiator also had a broken valve, so I was unable to turn it off manually. This led to sleepless nights during our stay due to the increased heat in the room.
There was no signal on the TV for normal channels.
The blind in the ensuite was broken and stuck in the down position.
The windows and general cleanliness of the property was not to a standard I would expect for the price that we paid to stay there for the week (£989). Lost of dust and dirt under the sofas and behind the doors.Very Poor – Nihow from United Kingdom – July 29, 2025 (2/10)
Facilities are OK, beds and rooms are clean.
What could be improved: Access I was given the wrong address and the wrong code to get in so ended up staying in the van overnight as could not get in.
Hot water did not work and the showers were a dribble.
Very tired with exposed wiring in the bathroom.Good – Johan from Netherlands – June 10, 2025 (7/10)
