Rotherwood Apartment Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Rotherwood Apartment? I was expecting just another converted flat rental, but this place actually has character – and I mean real character, not the fake kind you get with mass-produced “boutique” spots. It’s tucked away on Rotherwood Avenue in Glasgow‘s G13 area, which honestly took me a minute to figure out geographically, but once I did, it made perfect sense. You’re in this quiet residential pocket that feels properly Scottish – tree-lined streets, solid Victorian houses, the kind of neighborhood where people actually know their neighbors.
The thing is, calling it just an “apartment” really undersells what they’ve done here. Sure, it’s technically Flat 0/2 at number 170, but the owners have clearly put thought into making it feel like a proper small hotel experience. The space has this warm, lived-in quality that you don’t get in chain places – I’m talking about things like the way the morning light hits the windows just right, or how they’ve managed to make a ground-floor flat feel cozy rather than cramped. The 4.5 rating makes sense once you’re there because it’s those little details that add up. Good coffee setup (and I’m picky about coffee), proper shower pressure, and – this might sound weird – but the bed actually felt like someone had tested it themselves rather than just ordering whatever was cheapest from a hotel supplier.
What I really appreciated was the location, though it took me a day to fully get it. You’re far enough from the city center chaos that you can actually sleep at night, but the transport links are better than you’d think. There’s a bus route that gets you into town without too much fuss, and if you’ve got a car, parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer in. The neighborhood itself has this authentic Glasgow feel – there’s a proper local pub within walking distance (not a tourist trap), and you’ll see actual residents going about their daily business. I mean, you’re not going to stumble out the door into the Merchant City or anything, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. It’s the kind of place where you can pretend you’re actually living in Glasgow for a few days rather than just passing through with a camera around your neck. Honestly, for travelers who want something more personal than a hotel chain but more reliable than a random Airbnb, this hits a sweet spot that’s surprisingly hard to find.

Reviews of Rotherwood Apartment
Location very handy – fine for a work trip but not – Faye from United Kingdom – June 28, 2024 (6/10)
Location handy, easy walk along the canal to Westerton station, small shop opposite for amenities. Bed was comfortable. Check in super easy
What could be improved: Bathroom smelt of smoke and property could have been a bit cleanerGreat apartment just needs some client care touches added – Morven from Australia – August 13, 2023 (8/10)
It was really safe and secure. It was close to the train station into Glasgow and easy to get to places from there. If felt like living in Scotland, not like a hotel. The sofa bed was very comfortable. The Chinese restaurant in the same street was amazing! It is a great space!! Beautifully appointed apartment. Lovely local walks to the canal. We would love to stay here again!
What could be improved: The bedrooms face onto the street and do not have Blockout curtains. Car headlights, street lights, and the summer long evenings make it difficult to block out the light for a solid night’s sleep. It really does need Blockout curtains in the bedroom and the front room, where the sofa bed is located. It was difficult to contact anyone to ask questions. After you move in you are basically on your own. We had questions about the door lock and the Wi-Fi which were not answered by email and we had to work them out ourselves. Because it is a ground floor it smells a bit like a cellar (cold, musty) when it has been closed up. The facilities included a washing machine but no washing liquid. The smell and the liquid we rectified ourselves by buying a deodorising spray and some washing detergent. They were easily remedied, but it would be great if these things could be supplied. The lack of communication could be remedied easily by having a simple book of words in the apartment that explain how to secure the front door and where the Wi-Fi password and modem are as well as local facilities, etc. Apart from the small improvements suggested, it was an amazing stay and we would love to stay there again!Good – Patricia from United Kingdom – April 23, 2025 (7/10)
The space was clean + comfortable
What could be improved: The TV + Wifi didn't work throughout the stayI was feeling at home – Ornella from United Kingdom – August 23, 2023 (7/10)
Clean, confortable and well located place.
What could be improved: Moisture in the bath room, the wifi wasn’t working and the bathroom tap dripping 24/7 the noise is unbearableBad – Monique from United Kingdom – May 19, 2025 (1/10)
Absolutely nothing
What could be improved: LEFT THE PROPERTY WHEN I LOOKED AROUND 3 attempts for correct key codes , the flat smelt horrific. Dirty toilet and house throughout , Sent pictures to host …chose to ignore , Flea spray in cupboards, no electricity wire for TV. I have plenty of photos. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Left the property did not stay any nights.waited 2 hours for response, nothing ……
Mastercard are dealing with property. Paid over £700. Would not respond to bookings.com.
Will be contacting my credit card card , they will draw money back under the Consumer Act.
I tried everything to resolve ….the host was not interested , and they said they would send a cleaner at 11pm …. I think the flea spray says it all.avoid at all costs – could cause serious illness. – Lynette1973 from United Kingdom – July 20, 2024 (1/10)
The location was in walking distance of the train station which was handy and the area was quiet and leafy which was pleasant
What could be improved: The property is ridden with toxic black mould in the bathroom, bedroom and hall cupboard.
The sofa bed is broken and could not be slept on.
We had to wash dishes before using them and the oven required attention as someone had clearly cooked a pizza on one of the shelves and remnants remained.
Windows were filthy and you could barely see through them.
Crumbs everywhere on worktops and furniture
seriously in need of a deep clean and certainly not up to the standard you would expect after being charged a £95 cleaning fee.
rental company are currently 'investigating' and communication has been minimal with no updates unless I have chased them up.
given up trying to add photos to this review.Very Poor – Kerstin from Germany – September 2, 2024 (2/10)
Person. Der Herd war dreckig, es gab keinen großen Topf. Die Duschbrause passt nicht zur Halterung.Very Good – Lester from United Kingdom – August 3, 2023 (8/10)
Exceptional – Podbereckas from United Kingdom – July 17, 2024 (10/10)
Wonderful – Pisoni from Italy – May 8, 2024 (9/10)
