Sandyford Lodge Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Sandyford Lodge? I was expecting just another converted Victorian house trying too hard to be boutique, but this place actually gets it right. Tucked into Royal Crescent in the West End – and honestly, it’s one of those addresses that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special before you even walk through the door. The building itself is this gorgeous Georgian terrace that somehow manages to feel grand without being intimidating, if that makes sense.

What I really loved is how they’ve kept all the original character – those high ceilings, the ornate cornicing, even the old sash windows that actually open properly (you’d be surprised how rare that is). The rooms have this cozy, lived-in elegance that boutique places often try to fake but rarely achieve. Mine overlooked the crescent’s gardens, and I mean, waking up to that view of mature trees and period architecture… it’s pretty much why you come to Glasgow‘s West End in the first place. The beds are properly comfortable too – none of that rock-hard mattress nonsense some places think passes for luxury.

Location-wise, you’re basically in the heart of everything that makes this part of the city special. Kelvingrove Park is literally a two-minute walk, and I spent ages wandering around there in the evenings when the light gets all golden through the trees. The museum’s right there too, obviously, but what I really appreciated was being so close to Byres Road without dealing with the weekend crowds and noise. You can pop out for dinner at one of those little restaurants tucked away on side streets, then actually get a decent night’s sleep afterward. Parking was surprisingly manageable – there’s usually space on the crescent itself, though you might have to circle once or twice during term time when the university students are about. The staff seem to genuinely know the area well, which is refreshing – they pointed me toward this brilliant little café on Hyndland Street I never would have found otherwise. It’s not trying to be flashy or chase some arbitrary star rating, and honestly, that works in its favor. Sometimes you just want a place that feels authentic and welcoming rather than corporate perfect, you know?

    Location of the facilities

What could be improved: It was peak time so I will not mention

  • Clean and safe hotel with a decent location. – Martin from United Kingdom – August 18, 2025 (8/10)

Very clean room and especially the bathroom. Good location for the park and some local restaurants. 30 mins walk to Glasgow Central. Stop 17 for the hop on hop off City bus tour red route is just round the corner.

What could be improved: Nothing stands out

  • Good choice for a stay in Glasgow – Svilen from Bulgaria – August 15, 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is well located, a minute walk from the bus stop to Glasgow city centre and the airport. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. I would definitely stay there again on my next visit.

  • Very Good – Filomena from Italy – August 13, 2025 (8/10)

The staff was really kind and helpful.
The room was clean and looked nice.

  • Very Good – Juan from Germany – August 13, 2025 (8/10)

If you're looking for an affordable and central location in Glasgow within a diverse gastronomical area, this is your choice. The staff is friendly going the extra mile to meet your needs, always there and easy to reach out to.

What could be improved: About the installations, one notices the new renovations made on top of the old structures, one or two things may need some fixer upper, but nothing severe that interferes with the functionality of the room. The only thing that I would personally change would be the carpet floor, which isn't the most hygienic and hypoallergenic choice.

  • Beautiful and accessible to all tourist places. – Thakur from India – August 10, 2025 (8/10)

The location is good. There are fun places to eat and unwind the day nearby. We loved the variety of cuisine available nearby. Major tourist spots (Buchanan street, Kevingrove, Necropolis) are all at walking distance. We did the entire sight seeing in 1 day with our infant. We even walked from station to hotel so it is greatly accessible location. The staff were also knowledgeable and helpful. We took breakfast at additional cost of 10 GBP per person which was also great. Over all a great stay

What could be improved: No toothpaste/ brush provided. But we were able to manage as we carried our own toiletries.

  • We had a very nice stay. – Arnold from Germany – August 10, 2025 (9/10)

The staff are very friendly and open for requests. We asked them to change the bed linen and make a restaurant reservation, which was handled without any problems.

  • Good location – Lena from Sweden – August 8, 2025 (9/10)

Super close to the bus stop to town. Big street close by with bars, restaurants and shops.

What could be improved: The shower needs some figuring out.
