Sauchiehall Street Apartment Overview
You know what? Sauchiehall Street Apartment really surprised me when I stayed there last spring. I’ll be honest – when I first heard the location, I was a bit worried about noise since Sauchiehall is basically Glasgow’s main shopping drag, but actually the soundproofing was way better than I expected. Sure, you get some street buzz during the day, but it dies down nicely in the evenings, and honestly, being right in the thick of things is half the fun.
The apartment itself has this lovely lived-in feel that’s so much better than those sterile hotel rooms you usually get. I mean, the kitchen actually has proper mugs – not those tiny hotel cups – and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. The bathroom’s compact but cleverly designed, and the shower pressure was surprisingly good (always a gamble in older Glasgow buildings, trust me). What I really loved was the little details – decent wifi that actually worked for video calls, blackout curtains that properly block out those ridiculously long summer days Scotland throws at you, and a comfy sofa where you can actually relax after walking around the city all day. The whole place feels like someone’s actual home rather than a rental, if that makes sense.
Location-wise, you’re literally steps from everything you’d want to see. The Style Mile shopping is right outside your door, but more importantly, you’re a quick walk to some fantastic pubs tucked down the side streets that most tourists never find. I discovered this little whisky bar called The Pot Still just around the corner – completely by accident – and ended up spending way too much money on single malts. The Merchant City area is maybe ten minutes on foot, and getting to the West End (which you absolutely should) is dead easy from here. Parking can be tricky if you’ve got a car, but honestly, you won’t need one staying here. The only real downside I noticed was that grocery runs require a bit of planning since the nearest proper supermarket isn’t exactly next door, though there are plenty of cafes and takeaways if you can’t be bothered cooking. For a 3-star place with an 8.8 rating, it definitely punches above its weight – I’ve stayed in fancier hotels that felt way less welcoming than this little gem.
