Shaw Apartment Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Shaw Apartment on Pollockshaws Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It’s one of those places that doesn’t fit into neat hotel categories, you know? No official star rating, just this intriguing little spot tucked into a residential street in South Glasgow that feels more like staying at a friend’s really well-appointed flat than a traditional hotel.
The location actually surprised me in the best way. Pollockshaws Road has this authentic Glasgow vibe that tourist areas sometimes lack – there’s a proper chippy just down the street, and you’ll hear actual locals going about their daily business rather than crowds of visitors. It’s about a 15-minute bus ride into the city center, which honestly gave me a better feel for how Glaswegians actually live. The flat itself (and yes, it really does feel like a flat rather than a hotel room) has this lived-in comfort that I found pretty refreshing. The kitchen setup means you can actually make a proper cup of tea without those tiny hotel kettles, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff – something I always appreciate after living out of a suitcase.
Now, I should mention that with a 6.6 rating, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The building shows its age a bit, and if you’re expecting hotel-style daily housekeeping or a 24-hour front desk, you might be disappointed. But here’s the thing – what it lacks in polished hotel services, it makes up for in character and value. The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings with people walking their dogs and heading to the local pub, and honestly, falling asleep to those everyday Glasgow sounds felt more authentic than any sanitized hotel experience I’ve had. Plus, parking on the street is actually manageable, which anyone who’s driven in Glasgow will tell you is no small thing. I’d say it’s perfect if you want to experience Glasgow like you actually live there for a few days, rather than just passing through. Just don’t expect luxury – expect genuine local flavor and a place that feels like home pretty quickly.

Reviews of Shaw Apartment
Very Good – Wendy from United Kingdom – March 23, 2025 (8/10)
Great wee property
But tried to book for next year as it’s a family outing and was more than double so ended up booking elsewhereHandy for central Glasgow – Jennifer from United Kingdom – October 13, 2024 (7/10)
Flat was clean, comfortable and warm. Convenient location
What could be improved: It was very hard to get the keys out of the keysafe. Also the front door lock was very hard to open.Good – Jacqui from United Kingdom – December 29, 2023 (7/10)
Very clean , warm, beds comfortable.
What could be improved: Difficulty entering the property. Communication with company wasn’t great, lots of messages saying we hadn’t paid , limited instructions about checking out. No info left in property about how things workedClean and comfortable apartment but difficult to access – Virginia from United Kingdom – October 8, 2024 (7/10)
The apartment was clean, warm and comfortable.
What could be improved: On arrival, the keys weren’t in the correct key box as instructed in the check in information but this was quickly sorted with a phone call. However, the keys often got stuck in the lock and we once tried for as long as ten minutes to gain access. We contacted the landlord’s agents several times to try and resolve the issue but eventually we were told that they couldn’t help further. We dreaded coming back to the flat each day and wrestling with the lock each time. Sometimes it turned easily but other times it took ages. We asked the landlord’s agents to ask the landlord to contact us direct but were told that wasn’t possible. We were travelling with a small baby and it made us anxious each time we returned that we wouldn’t be able to get inside again. We gave up trying to get help when the agent told us that she couldn’t get anyone out at the weekend and said “sorry this isn’t the answer you were looking for”. I’d hate to have been travelling on my own or arriving late at night and then having to deal with this access problem. For this issue alone, we wouldn’t book this apartment again.A good, warm home base slightly let down by some fumbled basics. – Alan from United Kingdom – March 12, 2024 (7/10)
We saw the place had received some bad reviews but decided to take a chance after being reassured by the owner as the location was good for us, and ultimately I'm glad we did keep the booking. It's in a good location if you have a car – there's free parking on the street and it's easy to get to from the Airport or train stations in town. The flat itself is warm and comfortable and perfect if you aren't fussy, there's a previous review that says it was the worst stay they've ever had but I have no idea how they thought that; it's clean and warm. Maybe they are used to staying in 5* hotels or something. It's not the nicest area I guess but it's also far from awful. All in all it was a great base for us to go explore the city. As long as you aren't expecting a palace or hotel then it's great: it's basically an airbnb-style place.
What could be improved: Despite being in contact twice about the keys we still had a problem getting them when we arrived, possibly as they change the code after cleaning so the code in the initial email was for another stay. They emailed a new (correct) code on the morning of check-in but we didn't see it and already thought we had the code for the lock box. Didn't take long to sort out though. If you were a solo female traveller you probably wouldn't appreciate standing around not able to get into your flat so if you book remember to check your emails the morning of checking in as they probably will send a different code to the one you got sent several times before arriving.
We also didn't have bedding for the sofa bed nor a fifth towel despite clearly booking for 5 people. They brought a towel round the first morning but the sofa bed ended up without sheets. (When we got in touch about it we were told we could get bedding sent round but it wouldn't arrive for a few days and that it would cost and extra £10 per night which was baffling).
Finally we got multiple emails saying we hadn't paid but on clicking the link, it confirmed payment had been made. We still got more emails saying we didn't.
Considering this company seem to have several properties in Scotland you'd think they'd be better organised and a little more professional but ultimately it was merely inconvenient and didn't spoil anything. As long as you take all of the above into consideration and understand basic things seem to get overlooked, it's a nice placethe house location is good – Elizabeth from Ireland – February 18, 2024 (8/10)
I liked the house but the front of the house isn't clean and to get the key to enter the property was a nightmare
