Sherbrooke Castle Hotel Overview

You know what struck me first about Sherbrooke Castle Hotel? It actually lives up to that “castle” part of its name – I mean, we’re talking proper Scottish baronial architecture here, not some modern place trying too hard with a fancy name. The moment you pull up (and yes, there’s decent parking which honestly made my day), you get this sense that you’re staying somewhere with real history, not just another chain hotel.

The thing is, this is genuinely a 4-star property that feels like it knows what it’s doing. With an 8.8 rating, you’d expect something good, but I was pleasantly surprised by how they’ve managed to keep that old-world charm while actually making the rooms comfortable for modern travelers. The staff – and this might sound weird – but they seem to genuinely care about the place, like they’re proud to work there. You get little insights about the building’s history during check-in, random stories about the gardens, that sort of thing that makes you feel like you’re getting the inside scoop.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve preserved the character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. Sure, you’ve got your period features and all that – thick walls that actually keep things quiet, original fireplaces in some rooms, windows that look out over grounds that someone clearly takes pride in maintaining. But the beds are properly comfortable, the bathrooms work like they should, and the WiFi doesn’t make you want to throw your laptop out the window. I’ve stayed in too many “historic” hotels where they use age as an excuse for things not working properly – this isn’t one of those places. The heating actually works (crucial in Scotland, trust me), and while some of the corridors have that slight creak that comes with old buildings, it adds character rather than keeping you awake.

Honestly, what sets this place apart is that it feels like someone’s grand country house that happens to take paying guests, rather than a corporate hotel that’s decorated to look old. The common areas have that lived-in quality – you know, proper armchairs that are actually comfortable, books that look like people have read them, fireplaces that get lit when it’s cold outside. During my stay, I found myself hanging around the lounge area longer than I usually would, partly because it was genuinely pleasant and partly because you end up chatting with other guests and staff in a way that just happens naturally. It’s not forced or scripted – just the kind of atmosphere that develops when people aren’t rushing around checking boxes on a corporate hospitality manual.

It was super nice, the service staff was very kind, respectful, elegant, they treated us as if we were kings, very sweet, the food was delicious, we tried different things and everything was exquisite. The room was divine, super clean, super comfortable, warm in the winter, we had a tub and I took a relaxing and wonderful bath, no noise from anywhere, the exterior as well as the interior of the hotel are impressive, the coctels are sublime, this time I was only going for one night, but I am looking forward to stay here again, I think it has been the best stay of my life, it was very romantic, very nice, it is close to everything, very good location, facilities and super friendly staff, my partner and I loved it.
