The Stables – Fabulous stylish flat in Merchant City & Free Secure Parking Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name The Stables – Fabulous stylish flat in Merchant City & Free Secure Parking, I thought it might be one of those places that tries too hard with the quirky branding. But you know what? This converted stable building on Bell Street actually delivers on that promise, and the free parking thing is no joke in Glasgow city center.

The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re right in the heart of Merchant City, which means you can stumble back from the bars and restaurants without worrying about taxi fare or night bus schedules. I mean, you’ve got the Corinthian Club literally around the corner, and all those trendy spots on Wilson Street are maybe a three-minute walk. The building itself has this cool industrial vibe – you can still see hints of its stable origins in the exposed brick and high ceilings, but they’ve done it up with proper modern touches. The flat I stayed in had this really nice mix of period character and contemporary stuff that actually worked together (which doesn’t always happen, let’s face it).

What really sold me on this place was the parking situation. Finding secure parking in Central Glasgow that doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg is honestly like winning the lottery. Here, it’s included and properly secure – not just some sketchy back alley spot. The area can get pretty lively on weekends (Merchant City doesn’t exactly go to sleep early), but the windows are decent quality so it’s not like you’re lying awake listening to every conversation from the street. The flat itself is genuinely stylish without being pretentious about it – think exposed brick, good lighting, and furniture that looks like someone actually thought about comfort, not just Instagram photos. The kitchen‘s well-equipped too, which matters if you’re staying for more than a couple of nights or just want to grab breakfast before heading out to explore.

It’s a solid 3-star place that punches above its weight, honestly. The 7.7 rating seems about right – it’s not luxury hotel territory, but it’s definitely a cut above your standard city center accommodation. The staff know the area really well, so they’re good for recommendations if you want to venture beyond the obvious tourist spots. Plus, being on Bell Street puts you within easy walking distance of both the train stations and the main shopping areas, so you’re not constantly jumping in taxis or figuring out bus routes. If you’re looking for somewhere with character that’s actually in the center of things (and you don’t want to pay through the nose for parking), this place hits the mark.

Reviews of The Stables – Fabulous stylish flat in Merchant City & Free Secure Parking

  • Lovely comfortable and clean apartments. Excellent location. – Joyce from United Kingdom – July 9, 2025 (8/10)

Perfect location for us. The apartment was clean and tidy and I appreciated the excellent communications from the hosts. Really nice that tea, coffee and sugar were supplied.

What could be improved: Just a couple of small things – the bedside lamp did not work and the window blinds were very fragile. I was terrified I would break them. Also the lock to the apartment door itself was difficult to get to engage and lock fully.

  • Very comfortable but it’s a walk up apartment – Keng from Singapore – June 29, 2025 (8/10)

    Good facilities as described

What could be improved: Walk up apartment

  • Never back again over lift – Maria from Ireland – November 20, 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Stairs. Luggage heavy. It should have lift

  • Wonderful – Peter from Australia – July 15, 2023 (9/10)

It had great facilities and was well located 15 minutes walk from central Glasgow.

  • Lovely comfortable flat in a great location – Jacqui from United Kingdom – May 20, 2023 (8/10)

Lovely and clean in a great location.

What could be improved: Narrow parking space

  • it was good – Sumudu from United Kingdom – February 12, 2023 (9/10)

    spacious

  • City centre and also Quiet – Moira from United Kingdom – February 12, 2023 (8/10)

Excellent location near city centre but very quiet, especially at night.
    Off-road designated parking space.
Very spacious and comfortable in the flat.
Lots of fresh air, once the windows were persuaded to open.

What could be improved: Difficulty opening gate of parking area – perhaps the fob needed a new battery.
    Black mould around windows.
Stuffy, sweaty smell on arrival and windows very stiff to open.
Not enough hot water for a bath.

  • The flat made our exploration of Glasgow very satisfying. – Timothy from United Kingdom – December 6, 2022 (8/10)

Very clean and the kitchen facilities were excellent. Location superb, close to shops and restaurants. The free secure parking was essential for us and was available as described. Despite he central location the flat was very quiet.

What could be improved: Not sure it could be altered but the 53 steps from the outside door to the flat was a little trying for a couple of OAP's!

  • Location great, bed comfortable, off street parking and easy access – Robert from United States – October 14, 2022 (8/10)

Location was very good. Bed was very comfortable. A lot of space in the flat. Kitchen had everything we needed. Nothing else to add but have to write more to keep computer happy.

What could be improved: Prior to coming asked for passport photo and credit card- we refused, Flat was cold and had to ask to get more heat, could not control it ourselves, they did get us more heat, The sofa and chair are too low for us old folks- ages 66 and 67, hard to get in and out of, no directions for the oven, only the stove, Very low water pressure for the shower, did not expect alot, just a little more, toilet seat moves and needs tightening- told them they could fix after we left. People need to know it is 3rd floor, 53 steps, no elevator.

  • Great size apartment if you're good with stairs – Sarah from United Kingdom – October 9, 2024 (7/10)

The apartment is large and there's a proper kitchen.
The area of the city is good with 2 stations near by
    A small supermarket
Merchant city has a plethora of eateries and it felt safe
Parking on site was a real benefit for us too

What could be improved: There were a few things which could have made our stay more comfy:
The sofa and chairs are passed their best as, was the TV.
The bed position is very tight to walk by given the room is a really good size, a layout change could sort this.
The shower pole really needed a deep clean, otherwise cleanliness was good.
A USB charger point would have been a plus – 95% of places we stay have these now.
(We knew about stairs but be aware there are 6 sets which is a lot with heavy bags).
These are minor points but it all just felt a bit unloved.
If you're looking for a large, functional apartment in a good area for access to the city centre this is a good option and better still if they address these few items.
