The West Highland Way Pitches Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about The West Highland Way Pitches, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from a 5-star camping experience. I mean, how fancy can pitches really get? Well, turns out I was in for quite the surprise. This place sits right along the famous West Highland Way trail, and the location at Ardoch House is actually pretty brilliant if you know the area. You’re far enough from Glasgow‘s hustle to feel like you’re properly in the Scottish countryside, but close enough that you won’t spend half your day just getting there.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to elevate the whole camping experience without losing that authentic outdoor feel. The pitches themselves are spacious – none of that cramped festival camping nonsense where you’re practically sharing a sleeping bag with your neighbor. Each spot has proper electrical hookups and water access, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to keep your phone charged for those Highland photos. The facilities block is where you really see the 5-star treatment though. Hot showers that actually stay hot (you’d be amazed how rare this is at some places), proper lighting, and they keep everything spotless. I visited in late spring when the weather was typically Scottish – a bit unpredictable – and having those reliable, warm facilities was a godsend.
The staff here actually know their stuff about the West Highland Way, which isn’t always the case at places that just happen to be near hiking trails. They’ll give you proper advice about weather conditions, which sections might be muddy, and where to grab supplies if you’ve forgotten something. There’s also this great little honesty shop on-site where you can pick up basics without having to drive into town. The 8.1 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not quite perfect (the wi-fi can be a bit patchy, and if you’re here during peak hiking season it does get busy), but for what it is, it’s genuinely excellent. You know what I really appreciated? The quiet hours are actually enforced, so you won’t have groups of hikers chatting loudly at 6 AM right next to your tent. Well, not officially anyway. If you’re planning to tackle the West Highland Way or just want a proper Scottish camping experience without roughing it completely, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity.

The staff were very kind and offered me a tent which I accepted. They were.lovely and understood my situation. They really try to make sure their customers are comfortable
What could be improved: Due to booking.com messing up my booking I was lead to believe that I will be staying in a static caravan for my two nights stay When I got there I was told the booking was for my caravan which I don't own one and made this clear before hand. .An unexpected quirky experience in a wonderful setting – Karen from United Kingdom – March 24, 2025 (8/10)
Friendly and welcoming staff. The chalet is a Shepherd’s Hut which although unexpected was quite a quirky experience and it grew on me as the stay progressed. Everything was clean and tidy. Parking was good and the setting is beautiful. Lovely when lit up at night.
What could be improved: Had to go into the main house to use a loo/bathroom/shower which I hadn’t appreciated when I booked but it was always free when I needed it.
The chalet description said 6 m2 but I would say it was smaller than that.Fabulous – Natalie from United Kingdom – September 8, 2025 (8/10)
Great site – clean and welcoming with wonderful views

The team are friendly and welcoming. The pre-set tents were a great size, very comfortable and the facilities were pretty good. Breakfast is pretty decent. The views and surrounding areas are amazing.
What could be improved: Unless you are very specific about your arrival time you may find it hard to find someone but if you ask around, you'll get help.
Restaurant menu was a bit pricey but the food was actually really good.Wonderful – Tatiana from Slovakia – August 1, 2025 (9/10)
Nice place. Very quiet. The pitch was great with good beds.
What could be improved: The bathroom was little dirty. There was too much people and less bathrooms.Very Good – Karen from United Kingdom – June 29, 2025 (8/10)
Location and ethos
What could be improved: Unorganised as unsure what tents were availableGood – Amit from United Kingdom – April 20, 2025 (7/10)
Mountains and people around. The beds and tents were good.
What could be improved: It was freezing cold in the tents. They should provide a heater with butane gas so it runs for atleast 3-4 hours to help people to sleep.
