The Z Hotel Glasgow Overview

You know what struck me first about The Z Hotel Glasgow? It’s tucked right into North Frederick Street in a way that feels almost secretive – like you’re discovering something the crowds haven’t figured out yet. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Glasgow‘s city center, but the street itself has this quieter, more refined vibe compared to the chaos of Buchanan Street just a few blocks away. The building has that classic Glasgow sandstone thing going on, but inside it’s been completely reimagined with this smart, minimalist design that actually works.

Here’s the thing about Z Hotels – they’ve basically perfected the art of small but clever. The rooms are compact, sure, but everything has been thought through in a way that makes you go “oh, that’s actually brilliant.” The bed takes up most of the space (and honestly, it’s ridiculously comfortable for a 3-star place), but they’ve managed to squeeze in a rainfall shower that’s better than what you’ll find in hotels twice the price. The whole place has this clean, almost Scandinavian feel that’s pretty refreshing after wandering around Glasgow’s more traditional pubs and restaurants. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – you’d think being so central would mean street noise, but the windows do their job well.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to actually experience Glasgow rather than just pass through it. You’re a two-minute walk from George Square, where all the festivals and events happen, and the Merchant City area is right there with its galleries and late-night spots. But here’s something most visitors don’t realize – you’re also perfectly positioned for those incredible Victorian streets that climb up toward the cathedral. I found myself walking past the hotel multiple times during my stay just because everything interesting seemed to radiate out from that area. The staff gets this too – they’ll point you toward the good curry places on Gibson Street or tell you which subway stop gets you to the West End fastest. For an 8.3 rating, it punches well above its weight, mainly because they’ve focused on doing the essentials really well rather than trying to be everything to everyone. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got a proper base in the city without paying city-center premium prices.

Glasgow hotels provide guests with comfortable accommodations in this UNESCO City of Music, known for its vibrant nightlife, industrial heritage, and world-class music venues.

Reviews of The Z Hotel Glasgow

  • Very Good – Fraser from United Kingdom – September 8, 2025 (8/10)

    Brilliant stay, perfect location.

They had complimentary cheese and wine on when we arrived that looked amazing. Staff were brilliant. Went for a room with no windows as we were on a budget. Would definitely stay again but would get a room with windows next time. Close to Buchanan Galleries for parking.

  • Great location. It was fine for 3 nights. Would stay again but with a window! – James from Jersey – September 5, 2025 (7/10)

    Location, clean, staff were nice.

What could be improved: I chose a single room without window. We choose inside cabins on cruises. It was very small and when the lights are out it’s as black as the Earl of Hell’s waistcoat. On cruises we leave the bathroom light on and the door slightly ajar. I couldn’t do that here because the partition between the room and bathroom is glass. I did find a skylight the next day and a pole which drew back a screen. Only one coat hanger, I managed.

  • Good hotel but no window? – Fraser from United Kingdom – September 4, 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Everything was fine except no window in the room

What could be improved: Couldn't get the TV to work in my room

Clean, easy to navigate, bag storage until room is ready, awesome location

What could be improved: Bed is hard and uncomfortable

  • Perfect location – Ofaaron3 from Poland – August 28, 2025 (9/10)

The staff were very helpful and the hotel was very clean. The location (close to Queen Street railway station and Buchanan Street subway station) was superb.

  • Good for one night, a little expensive. – Dara from United Kingdom – August 28, 2025 (9/10)

Staff was lovely, water in the room was delicious, shower was nice, cute buscuits.

What could be improved: Room was a little small. View was a bit rubbish.

  • Great location and friendly staff – Maria from Italy – August 27, 2025 (8/10)

We chose the windowless room to save money. The location was perfect, and the staff was super helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: The lack of a window made it feel a bit dark. Next time, we’d opt for a room with a window :’)

  • Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely stay here again. – Nadeen from Bahrain – August 26, 2025 (9/10)

Everything about the hotel was excellent 👌🏼
The staff were amazing – very polite, professional, and extremely helpful. Even before my check-in, I asked them to receive a package on my behalf, and they handled it smoothly without any issues. The rooms were clean, cool, and very comfortable, and the bed was really cozy.

What could be improved: The only downside was the bathroom design – it’s more of a “couples style” with a transparent partition, so it lacked a bit of privacy.
