I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Vkm Apartments on Barrland Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The building sits right in Pollokshields, which is honestly one of those Glasgow neighborhoods that locals know but tourists often miss completely. That turned out to be exactly what made this place special, actually.

The apartments themselves are proper spacious – I mean, you get actual room to spread out your stuff instead of that cramped hotel room feeling where your suitcase becomes a permanent floor fixture. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re still technically in the city. Pollokshields has this residential vibe that’s sort of removed from the tourist chaos, but you’re still close enough that getting into the city center doesn’t require planning your day around transport. The local Pakistani and Indian restaurants nearby are incredible, by the way – there’s this whole stretch that feels more authentic than anything you’ll find in the touristy bits of town.

You know what impressed me most though? The little details that someone clearly thought about. The kitchens are actually functional – like, properly stocked with decent pans and utensils, not the sad token appliances you usually get in aparthotels. I ended up cooking a few meals just because I could, and honestly, after weeks of restaurant food, that felt like luxury. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that endless paperwork dance. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street sometimes – it’s mostly residential permit stuff during the day – but evenings and weekends you’ll usually find something within a block or two. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s comfortable and well-maintained without being flashy about it. That 8.5 rating makes sense when you factor in the space you get for the price point, plus the neighborhood authenticity. I mean, you’re staying where actual Glaswegians live, not in some sanitized hotel district. The walls are solid enough that I never heard neighbors, and the windows do a decent job keeping out street noise, though early morning bin collection is still early morning bin collection, if you know what I mean. If you’re the type who prefers having your own space over hotel services, and you want to experience Glasgow more like someone who lives there rather than just visits, this hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  It is a very nice, large apartment with spacious rooms and two separate bathrooms. Great for a family of 4.
