voco Grand Central Glasgow by IHG Overview
You know what struck me first about voco Grand Central Glasgow by IHG? Walking up Gordon Street, you can’t miss this gorgeous Victorian railway hotel – it’s basically attached to Central Station, which sounds like it might be noisy but honestly isn’t once you’re inside. The building itself is this stunning piece of 19th-century architecture that they’ve restored beautifully, and I mean really beautifully, not just slapped some modern fixtures in and called it a day.
I’ll be straight with you – this place gets the location thing so right it’s almost unfair to other hotels. You’re literally steps from the main train station (perfect if you’re doing that classic Scotland rail trip), but more importantly, you’re in the thick of everything that matters in Glasgow. Buchanan Street’s shopping is a two-minute walk, the Merchant City area with all its cool bars and restaurants is right there, and if you’re into the music scene – which, come on, it’s Glasgow – you’re stumbling distance from some legendary venues. The staff actually knows the city too, which seems obvious but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They’ll send you to places locals go, not just the tourist traps.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call “properly done” – they’ve kept some of the original character with those high ceilings and big windows, but everything works like it should in 2024. The beds are actually comfortable (not just Instagram pretty), the shower pressure is decent, and there’s enough space that you’re not tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. Some rooms overlook the station concourse which is pretty cool if you’re into that urban energy thing, though if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for something facing Gordon Street instead. The whole place has this warm, lived-in feeling despite being a chain hotel – it feels more like staying in a grand old Glasgow institution that happens to have really good Wi-Fi and modern plumbing. With that 8.8 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, and after staying there, I get it. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in the city, it’s just trying to be the kind of place where everything works and you feel like you’re actually in Glasgow, not some generic hotel bubble.

Luxurious Stay!! – Fiona from United Kingdom – September 7, 2025 (10/10)
The rooms were a great size, and immaculate. The beds were so comfy and the bedding was of great quality. The only thing for me was the room was a bit warm for me, but that’s a personal preference and nothing to do with the hotel. You can control the temperature with the thermostat which is located in the room.
The room had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
I would have liked a robe and slippers. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely return!

Beautiful hotel in great central location. Highly recommend – Jill from United Kingdom – September 3, 2025 (10/10)
Loved the mix of traditional & modern in this beautiful building. Lovely spacious rooms. Had great room service. Fab location in central station, perfect for travelling. Great breakfast!
What could be improved: My room didn’t have a view, faced a wall & the windows didn’t open. However, the staff were very helpful & a handyman was sent up to fix the windows open a little so I didn’t feel claustrophobic…. this was appreciated.Exceptional – Roseana from United States – September 2, 2025 (10/10)
I loved that it had a lot of historic charm and it was close to the metro and bus station. The concierge was especially helpful in making suggestions of things to do while also making me feel welcome.
What could be improved: It’s in pretty close proximity to unsavory characters. There are quite a few bars within a block so a few drunkards about and it’s something to consider especially as a solo traveling woman.Just superb – David from United Kingdom – September 1, 2025 (10/10)
So convenient and central
