Westend SECC & Hydro – Two Bed Apt by City Living Scotland Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Westend SECC & Hydro – Two Bed Apt by City Living Scotland on Cleveland Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name’s a bit of a mouthful, and let’s just say the building doesn’t exactly scream “luxury hotel” from the outside. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this place definitely has its moments.
The location is actually pretty clever if you’re heading to events at the SECC or P&J Live (they really went all-in with that name, didn’t they?). You’re literally a ten-minute walk to the venues, which means you can stumble back after a concert without dealing with the chaos of taxis or the last train. Glasgow‘s west end has this great mix of students and young professionals, so Cleveland Street itself has that lived-in neighborhood feel – not touristy, but not sketchy either. There’s a decent corner shop nearby, and honestly, you’ll probably find yourself grabbing supplies there because the apartment setup means you can actually cook if you want to save some cash.
The two-bedroom layout works well if you’re traveling with friends or family – I mean, it beats cramming everyone into adjoining hotel rooms and listening to each other’s TV shows through thin walls. The furnishing is what I’d call “functional modern” – think IKEA meets short-term rental. Nothing’s going to wow you, but everything works, and the beds are actually comfortable (which, let’s face it, is what really matters after a long day). The kitchen has the basics covered, though don’t expect anything fancy – you’re looking at standard appliances and enough dishes to get by. What I appreciated was that someone clearly thought about the practical stuff: there are enough towels, the Wi-Fi doesn’t drop out every five minutes, and the heating actually heats the place properly. Small victories, but they add up. The 6.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to be anyone’s dream accommodation, but it does what it says on the tin without any major disasters. If you’re the type who spends most of your time out exploring the city or you’re here primarily for events, this works as a decent base. Just don’t expect hotel-style service or daily housekeeping – you’re basically renting someone’s apartment for a few nights, with all the independence and responsibility that comes with it.

Reviews of Westend SECC & Hydro – Two Bed Apt by City Living Scotland
Property ok for 1 or 2 nights but with a little more thought could be a lot better ie somewhere to hang clothes, tv in – John from United Kingdom – July 28, 2025 (5/10)
Close to city centre and our visiting venue . Shower was very good.
What could be improved: Bed uncomfortable , no clothes hanging facilities ie wardrobe or clothes hangers, some towels were stained what looked like false tanning stains, no tv instructions so couldn’t use .Exceptional – Theresa from United Kingdom – July 29, 2025 (10/10)
Fantastic location brilliant hosts
Wonderful – Charlie from United Kingdom – July 16, 2025 (9/10)
Lovely clean, spacious, comfortable apartment
What could be improved: Lack of hanging space for clothesNice house. – Electronics from United Kingdom – June 20, 2025 (10/10)
Nice house. Recomend
Poor – Debbie from United States – August 25, 2025 (3/10)
What could be improved: – Neither of the bedroom windows opened. This limited airflow in the apartment (admittedly, the day was warm, and the strong cleaning solutions recently used likely exacerbated our need for airflow). But most importantly, stuck windows would absolutely be a hazard if fire broke out in the kitchen, which stands directly between the bedrooms and the front door, which is the singular egress from the apartment.
– The kitchen did not have enough bowls/plates for four people, despite claiming to be "fully stocked". Also, no dish-cleaning supplies, other than dish soap, were provided, so we were left to wonder how clean the few existing dishes actually were in any case.
– The shower head has long-since lost its threads so cannot stay attached to the hose.
– A mirror in the toilet room would be nice, as well as a really good water-only scrub of the floor (currently there is so much built-up cleaning solution on the floor that it is positively sticky).
I did relay all of this to the hosts via private message, but, after no acknowledgement/reply in over one week, felt it best to say my piece in this review of the property. The likelihood of being trapped in the apartment, with no fire alarms or safe egress from the bedrooms absolutely haunts me.
Note that this property was previously called "50 Cleveland Street", but I am no longer able to see those reviews on Booking.com.Avoid this property! – Janice from United Kingdom – July 1, 2025 (1/10)
Nothing!
What could be improved: Where to start! Upon arriving at 3pm arranged check in time, the cleaner was still there. The TV did not work, the blinds would not open which resulted in the inside being very dark. No heating. The kettle had to be placed on the floor to use as plug did not reach. No wardrobes or even a chest of drawers to hang or put clothing anywhere 🙁 Would not advise anyone to stay here.Good – Anonymous from United Kingdom – June 26, 2025 (7/10)
Location
What could be improved: No fire alarms
No mirror in the bathroomA depressing rip off. – Anonymous from United Kingdom – June 29, 2025 (1/10)
No toaster, had to put the kettle on the floor to plug it in, 3 bowls for 4 people, poor poor poor
What could be improved: TV didn’t work, ‘kitchen’ a joke, extractor fans in loo and shower not working, no hooks anywhere, no wardrobe or drawers, one bedside light and table per bed, iron but no board, no toaster, no fire or smoke alarm, no local information or welcome pack, bedding was tired as was the furniture. Overall the flat was a big disappointment and not worth the moneyVery Good – Sarah from United Kingdom – June 20, 2025 (8/10)
Exceptional – Aghale from United Kingdom – June 7, 2025 (10/10)
