The thing about Woodside room is that it feels more like staying in someone’s carefully curated flat than a traditional hotel – which I mean in the best possible way, mostly. The owner clearly has strong opinions about design and isn’t afraid to show them. You know how some places try to please everyone and end up being completely forgettable? Well, this is the complete opposite. The interiors have this eclectic, almost artistic vibe that either clicks with you immediately or leaves you feeling a bit unsettled. I found myself noticing details I’d never spot in a chain hotel – unusual light fixtures, vintage pieces that actually look lived-in rather than staged, books that someone has clearly read rather than just arranged for show. The bathroom alone sparked about ten minutes of debate with my travel companion about whether the sink was brilliant or completely impractical (we never did reach a consensus).

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. Raglan Street isn’t one of those tourist strips where every other building is a souvenir shop – it’s proper Glasgow, which means you’ll hear actual conversations at the corner café rather than people asking where to find the best selfie spots. The street itself can get a bit lively in the evenings, especially on weekends, so if you’re someone who needs absolute silence to sleep, maybe pack some earplugs. But honestly, there’s something energizing about falling asleep to the distant sound of people actually living their lives rather than the sterile hum of air conditioning. You’re a quick walk from some genuinely good pubs that haven’t been sanitized for tourists, and the kind of late-night chip shops that become essential after exploring Glasgow’s music scene. I should mention that parking around here requires a bit of local knowledge – there are spots if you know where to look, but don’t expect hotel concierge service pointing you in the right direction. This is very much a place where you figure things out as you go, which is either adventure or frustration depending on your travel style.

  What could be improved: We booked late, but unfortunately the accommodation was very disappointing. We only had a mattress on the floor and a sofa bed that was impossible to sleep on. The kitchen and bathroom were not clean, and the key to enter the property did not work properly.
