ochiltree apartment Overview

I stumbled across Ochiltree Apartment on Port Dundas Road during one of those desperate late-night booking sessions, and honestly? Best accidental find I’ve made in Glasgow in years. This place doesn’t fit into any neat hotel category – it’s sort of a boutique situation without the pretentious star ratings, which actually works in its favor because you’re not paying for unnecessary frills.

The location is what really got me. Port Dundas Road isn’t exactly touristy, but that’s the point – you’re in Central Glasgow without the crowds and inflated prices of the city center spots. I mean, you can walk to George Square in about fifteen minutes, but you’re tucked away enough that you actually get some quiet at night. The building itself has this understated character that you don’t expect from the outside. Nothing flashy, just solid and comfortable in a way that feels authentically Scottish rather than trying too hard to be Instagram-worthy.

What surprised me most was how thoughtfully everything was set up inside. The apartment setup gives you space to actually live a bit – there’s a proper kitchen if you want to grab groceries from the Tesco down the road (locals will know the one), and the living area doesn’t feel cramped like most city accommodations do. You know what I really appreciated? The details that someone who actually lives in Glasgow would think of – good blackout curtains for those summer nights when it stays light forever, decent water pressure, and WiFi that doesn’t cut out every twenty minutes. The 8.5 rating it’s got makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything just works properly.

Parking can be a bit tricky on Port Dundas Road itself – street parking is hit or miss depending on the day – but there are options nearby if you’re driving. I’d honestly recommend just using public transport though; you’re well connected to the subway and bus routes from here. The area comes alive during the day with people heading to work in the city center, but evenings are surprisingly peaceful. It’s one of those Glasgow neighborhoods that feels residential but isn’t completely cut off from everything happening downtown.

Hotels in Glasgow offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this cultural gem, with easy access to historic districts, charming squares, and renowned whisky bars.

Very large apartment very clean and comfortable

What could be improved: Nowhere to sit and dry hair near a plug socket
Could do with a hand rail in shower
Yale lock on door needs attention

  • We were pleased we added an extra night and would recommend this accommodation – Anne from United Kingdom – May 19, 2025 (8/10)

The apartment was in a secure area with amenities close by ie deli. The apartment was bright and exceptionally clean. Not too far from bus station made it easy to access transport.

What could be improved: It would be nice to have a small table and chairs on the balcony. Also the en-suite room lacked drawer space . However the other room had plenty so not a huge problem.
