The Buckingham Studio Overview
You know what struck me first about The Buckingham Studio? It’s tucked away in this lovely residential stretch of the West End that most tourists never actually see, but honestly feels like the real Glasgow – tree-lined streets, those gorgeous Victorian tenements, and locals walking their dogs at all hours. I mean, you’re basically in Hillhead here, which is sort of the sweet spot between the university buzz and the quieter family neighborhoods.
The place itself is refreshingly unpretentious – no fancy star ratings or corporate nonsense, just a converted Victorian building that someone clearly put actual thought into. My room (well, it’s more like a compact apartment really) had these beautiful original features they didn’t try to modernize away, mixed with clean, contemporary touches that actually work together. The kitchenette situation is brilliant if you’re staying more than a night or two, especially since there’s a proper Tesco just down on Byres Road where you can grab supplies. Speaking of Byres Road – it’s maybe a seven-minute walk, which puts you right in the heart of everything without dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The soundproofing is actually pretty decent, though you’ll hear the occasional student group heading home from Ashton Lane, but that’s just part of the West End experience.
What I really appreciated was how the owners seem to understand their neighborhood – there’s local art on the walls, proper Scottish breakfast ingredients stocked in the shared areas, and they’ll give you actual useful recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the tourist traps. The whole vibe feels more like staying at a well-designed friend’s place than a hotel, which works perfectly if you want to explore Glasgow like someone who actually lives there. Parking can be a bit of a dance (it’s all residential permit zones around here), but they’ll sort you out with visitor permits, and honestly, once you’re settled, you won’t need the car much – everything’s walkable or a quick subway ride away. The 7.4 rating makes sense to me; it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful and genuine, with those little touches that show someone cares about the details without trying too hard to impress you.
Glasgow’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Victorian elegance and modern Scottish hospitality, with many featuring spa services and authentic Highland cultural experiences.

Reviews of The Buckingham Studio
With improvements, this would be a great place to stay – Elizabeth from United Kingdom – May 30, 2023 (6/10)
The location is brilliant, it really is in the heart of the West End, close to the Botanic Gardens. The host was great at communication and they have a ‘guide’ to the studio which is really helpful. It’s a beautiful, high ceiling studio, very pretty.
What could be improved: Where they’ve gone to a lot of trouble to make this a really cute place, a lot of other things were disappointing. Duvet and pillows were thin and cheap and uncomfortable. It was cold in the flat and the wifi wasn’t working (hadn’t been fixed since the last review…). It could have been cleaned to a better standard. The keys weren’t as described which made it difficult for us to get in initially. That being said, with a few tweaks, this will be incredible place to stay.Great base for exploring Glasgow's West End. – Ruth from United Kingdom – July 29, 2024 (9/10)
The location was great for exploring art galleries and the Botanic Gardens. There were plenty of good places to eat nearby as well.
What could be improved: I think a couple of very minor repairs in the bathroom – replacing a tap and fixing a loo seat that was slightly adrift – would make the place even better.great location. – Fahad from Saudi Arabia – May 4, 2023 (5/10)
it’s in excellent location near the Botanical Garden and main shopping street. Also, it has microwave, stove, fridge and washing machine.
What could be improved: The Internet and the heating didn’t work during our stay.Good – Maya from New Zealand – July 5, 2023 (7/10)
Exceptional – Harry from United Kingdom – June 14, 2025 (10/10)
