The Cluthar – Ground Floor West End City Centre Rockvilla flat & Parking Overview

So The Cluthar – Ground Floor West End City Centre Rockvilla flat & Parking – honestly, the name’s a bit of a mouthful, but don’t let that put you off. I stumbled across this place when I needed somewhere central in Glasgow without breaking the bank, and you know what? It actually worked out pretty well. It’s tucked away on St Peter Street in the West End, which is one of those areas that feels properly Glaswegian – not touristy, just real. You’re walking distance from Kelvingrove Park (maybe fifteen minutes if you’re not rushing), and there’s something quite nice about being in a ground floor flat rather than another generic hotel room.

The parking situation is honestly what sold me initially – anyone who’s driven around Glasgow city centre knows it’s an absolute nightmare finding a spot, especially around the West End where every street seems to have different restrictions. Having guaranteed parking included? That’s worth its weight in gold, I mean it. The flat itself is pretty straightforward, nothing fancy but clean and functional. It’s got that slightly worn-in feel that comes with being a proper residential conversion rather than a purpose-built hotel – the kind of place where the floorboards creak a bit when you walk around, but in a homey way rather than concerning. The room I stayed in had decent natural light, which can be hit or miss in Glasgow depending on the time of year and which way you’re facing.

What I liked most was how it felt like staying in an actual Glasgow neighborhood rather than some sanitized hotel district. There’s a proper local pub just around the corner where you can hear the football chat getting louder as the evening goes on, and you’re genuinely among locals rather than tourists. The West End has this energy that’s hard to describe – it’s artsy without being pretentious, busy without being frantic. You can walk to the University of Glasgow if that’s your thing, or just wander through the streets and discover those little independent shops and cafés that make this part of the city special. The transport links are solid too – you’re not stuck out in the suburbs needing to plan every journey into town. I will say the rating of 6.1 probably reflects that this isn’t luxury accommodation, and fair enough. The amenities are basic, and if you’re expecting room service or a concierge, you’ll be disappointed. But sometimes you just need a clean, safe place to sleep that doesn’t cost a fortune and gives you easy access to what the city actually has to offer. For that, this place does the job quite well.

Reviews of The Cluthar – Ground Floor West End City Centre Rockvilla flat & Parking

  • Gorgeous Glasgow. Two days of getting about the city and enjoying plenty on offer. – Ab61 from New Zealand – September 14, 2022 (7/10)

Good location with easy access to the city and surrounds being very walkable. The apartment was well set-up and the addition of secure off street parking and a washing machine were excellent.

What could be improved: The floors were a little dirty and it appeared the vacuuming had been missed, which was totally out of character with the rest of the apartment which was very clean.

  • Good location, suitable for two people – Darina from Bulgaria – November 11, 2024 (7/10)

The location and access to car park is great

What could be improved: The cleanness could have been better and the sofa was not comfortable for sleeping, it was small even for one person and stiff. Also, even though we asked for the heating system to be adjusted, that was not done and it was too cold in the flat.

  • Good – Sarah from United Kingdom – October 12, 2024 (7/10)

It was an excellent location and the parking was really handy as much of Glasgow has restricted or expensive parking.
When we arrived the flat was a little chilly and no hot water on the first morning, however I contacted the hosts and they responded quickly turning up heating and boosting hot water for the rest of the stay.

What could be improved: There wasn't any good seating for relaxing in the evening. unfortunately the sofa in the lounge was cold and quite uncomfortable .

  • Good – Ishak from Malaysia – May 9, 2023 (7/10)

Strategic location close to the city centre.

What could be improved: Heating was off and hot water was only available in the morning. Apart from that, its value for money.

  • Not value for money and you have to ask yourself, do I need the heating at my terms. – Dawn from United Kingdom – February 7, 2023 (6/10)

Near buses, subway and fabulous swimming pool. the flat was secure and mostly adequate.

What could be improved: Heating system is controlled by the hosts which just doesn’t work. They forget to turn it on and the timings aren’t adequate.
The tv hadn’t been set up for channels. There’s 800 and just needs to be 30. Wifi may not work well enough for people wanting to work whilst on holiday. Kitchen equipment needs updating and kitchen needs a good clean. Blind rods are missing, so they can’t be opened or closed.
